Lead Satellite Systems Engineer
PierSight Space
Title: Lead Satellite Systems Engineer
Industry: Space Technology
Location: Ahmedabad
Role Type: Full-time
Experience: 6-12+ years
About the Role:
You will serve as a senior systems engineer responsible for the architecture, technical integrity, performance, and end-to-end delivery of spacecraft supporting our SAR constellation. You will lead requirements flow-down, system-level integration, AIT readiness, launch and commissioning support, and in-orbit performance optimisation.
You will work across payload, platform, ground, and operations teams, and act as a key interface to vendors, subsystem suppliers, and launch providers.
Responsibilities:
-System Architecture & Requirements Leadership
- Own system-level architecture for new SAR spacecraft and constellation increments.
- Lead requirements definition, flow-down, verification planning, and traceability across all spacecraft subsystems.
- Ensure payload (SAR) system requirements are translated into clear bus-level specifications (power, thermal, data, pointing, RF/TTC).
- Conduct system-level trade studies (SWaP trades, power/thermal margins, data throughput, SAR duty-cycle optimisation).
-Technical Leadership Across Lifecycle
- Guide design development across AIT, Payload, ADCS, Comms, Thermal, Power, and Ground Segment teams.
- Lead design and readiness reviews: SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, ORR.
- Evaluate vendor designs, architectures, and test results for compliance.
- Manage internal and external interface definitions via ICDs and configuration control.
-Constellation Engineering
- Support architecture for constellation scale-up:
~orbital plane selection,
~performance/capacity planning,
~inter-satellite coordination,
~latency & coverage modelling.
- Validate mission simulations and satellite-to-ground data flows.
-AIT, Launch & Commissioning Oversight
- Provide technical oversight for Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT) execution, NCR resolution, and configuration management.
- Support launch readiness, pre-ship reviews, environmental test campaigns, FDIR planning.
- Lead technical activities during LEOP & Commissioning, ensuring the satellite meets performance metrics.
- Contribute to in-orbit anomaly investigations and corrective action implementations.
-Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a primary technical interface with:
~spacecraft bus vendors,
~subsystem suppliers,
~launch providers,
~ground segment partners
- Review vendor deliverables, analyses, and test data.
- Support contracts, SoWs, RFPs, technical evaluation, and acceptance milestones.
-Mentoring & Process Development
- Guide junior systems engineers on modelling, trade studies, documentation, and design fundamentals.
- Improve systems engineering processes: requirements management, V&V frameworks, model-based engineering, risk management.
Minimum Qualifications
- BE/BTech in Aerospace Engineering (mandatory)
- MTech/MS in Aerospace/Space Engineering (optional)
- 6–12+ years experience in space systems engineering.
- Must have 1–2 satellite missions delivered through at least these stages:
-SRR/PDR/CDR cycles,
-AIT campaigns,
-launch & early orbit operations,
-commissioning into nominal operations.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Knowledge & Skills
