ON A TYPICAL DAY YOU’LL
- Interpret and organize splicing schematics, work orders, and maps to properly plan for splicing work
- Work at various locations in the New York City metro area in outdoor, underground, and in-building settings
- Prepare and maintain a clean and well-stocked vehicle, including accountability for inventory of consumables, tools, equipment, etc.
- Report any fleet or worksite-related incidents in a timely manner
- Set up proper work zones in outdoor and indoor environments using safety cones, sticks, signs, strobe lights, etc., and in all weather conditions; follow all safety requirements and guidelines
- Route, organize, and marry cables and coils in outside plant and inside plant environments in preparation for splicing
- Perform single and ribbon fusion splices on various fiber-optic cable types
- Build and maintain fiber-optic splice enclosures in underground and in-building settings, including ring cuts and butt splices with cables up to 864F each
- Utilize various troubleshooting tools such as a Live Fiber Identifier, Optical Power Meter, Visual Fault Locator, and OTDR
- Troubleshoot fiber-optic network issues as directed by the Network & Fiber Engineering teams; interpret diagnostic results to aid in outage resolution
- Update and maintain splicing records and other documentation as required
- Assist the OSP Line team as needed in major network expansion, outage restoration, or other activities as required
- Communicate effectively internally to provide relevant project updates
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- 1+ years of experience splicing high-count fiber-optic cables in both outside plant and inside plant environments
- Safety-first mindset - always set yourself and others up for a safe work environment
- Highly organized and tidy work when it comes to documentation, records, splice cases, splice trays, work vehicle, locker, and other areas of responsibility
- Proficiency working with a wide variety of cable manufacturers (AFL, Prysmian, Corning) and cable types (SWR, Flat Ribbon, Rollable)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot all aspects of fiber-optic networks using both field equipment (OTDR/OPM/VFL/LFM) and online (GIS) applications
- Ability to safely lift 75lbs
- Ability to work while standing for long periods
- Valid, clean driver's license (recurring MVR check required)
- Comfortable working in confined space environments such as manholes, vaults and outdoors in all weather conditions, with experience working in the ECS Manhole System preferred
- Comfortable driving large (non-CDL) vehicles in New York City metro area
- Valid OSHA-30 Certificate required
- Willing and able to work the overnight shift (7pm-3am, Mon-Fri)
- Willing and able to work adjusted hours in accordance with New York City’s Annual Holiday Construction embargo (November - January)
- Ability to attend all required team and/or company meetings and events, which may be outside of typical working hours
- Highly organized and tidy when it comes to work orders, documentation, records, work vehicle, locker, and other areas of responsibility
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
PILOT’S PAY & PERKS
- Base salary of $62,400 - $83,200 per year.
