Optomechanical Engineer
Pixxel
Pixxel is a space data company building a health monitor for our planet. We are doing that by deploying a constellation of some of the world's most advanced earth imaging satellites in lower earth orbit and an analytics platform (on ground) with tools that enable easy application of this data across a multitude of sectors. Our fully deployed constellation will be capable of beaming down daily imagery of any place on earth. This role will contribute towards the design and development of optomechanical assemblies for Pixxel's high throughput space-based hyperspectral cameras.
If you love working at the cutting edge of technology and want to contribute towards making the world a better place by bringing down the benefits of space down to earth, this is the place for you.
Responsibilities:
- You will devise complex camera systems that integrate mechanical, optical and electrical components as you translate optical requirements and sensitivities into mechanical requirements.
- You will collaborate with Pixxel's manufacturing partners and internal stakeholders to design and integrate subsystems.
- You will be responsible for the development and evaluation of optomechanical designs with considerations of tolerance and stability over environmental ranges and reliability requirements.
- You will drive definition of system alignment and mechanical calibration procedures for various assembly and test stations.
- You will also contribute to project planning for development schedules/BOMs to meet all build stages up to flight readiness.
- Please note that you may be asked to travel (domestic or international) to support design and manufacturing activities including quality control and source inspection from time-to-time.
Basic Qualification:
- Minimum 4 years of optical-mechanical design experience, including a strong “hands-on” background with optomechanical assemblies.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Optical Engineering with strong industry experience.
Skills/Requirements:
- Prior experience in designing industry grade optical subassemblies, including the design of optical mounts (lenses, mirrors, sensors, prisms, windows).
- Demonstrated experience in FEA modelling tools.
- Proficiency in CAD (preferably Creo Pro/E/SolidWorks) with at least 3 years of experience working with the same.
- Experience with complex, tight-tolerance opto-mechanical design.
- Strong command in tolerance analysis of optical systems, including the use of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Exposure/knowledge about thermal properties, space-qualified materials and adhesives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Perks:
- Insurance covers for you and your family, free access to mental health professionals, paid sick leave and other benefits (vaccination drives, etc.).
- Reasonably flexible working hours.
- Get to work and regularly interact with some of the top scientists and professionals in space technology at Pixxel.
- Get exposure to the international space community and the chance to publish research on behalf of Pixxel.
