Pixxel is a space data company building a health monitor for our planet. We are doing that by deploying a constellation of some of the world's most advanced earth imaging satellites in lower earth orbit and an analytics platform (on ground) with tools that enable easy application of this data across a multitude of sectors. Our fully deployed constellation will be capable of beaming down daily imagery of any place on earth.

This role will contribute towards the development of Mission Operations Software that will be responsible for optimal tasking/scheduling of our satellite constellation. If you love working at the cutting edge of technology and want to contribute towards making the world a better place by bringing down the benefits of space down to earth, this is the place for you.

  1. Design, develop and maintain optimization framework (encompassing objective functions, operational constraints) interfacing with other in-house tools to generate an optimal tasking schedule for the Pixxel's satellite constellation
  2. Collaborate with business development and other satellite subsystem teams to effectively understand, collate and translate requirements into design specifications to maximize the revenue generation capability
  3. Implement design specifications into modular, scalable and maintainable math model as well as code
  4. Maintaining the existing models and framework used for satellite scheduling
  5. Work with the ground segment software team to deploy the models for day-to-day mission operations of the entire satellite constellation
  6. Take end-to-end ownership of the software development from design through implementation, testing and deployment

Basic Qualification:

  1. M.Tech / MS / Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  2. Experience: 2+ years of relevant work experience building mathematical models (optimization, statistics or any related mathematical domain) around scheduling
  3. Expertise in numerical optimization theory and techniques. Having experience of at least one (preferably multiple) mathematical optimization fields such as convex optimization, integer programming, dynamic programming and Heuristics (genetic algorithms, etc)
  4. Proficiency and Practical experience in one or multiple optimization libraries/software such as JuMP (Julia), Gurobi, CPLEX, Pymoo
  5. Strong programming skills in at least one high level programming language (Python/Julia/Java preferred)
  6. Ability to understand, break down, and solve complex problems independently
  7. Good communications skills (verbal and written), ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  1. Mission design and orbit simulation experience using software tools (STK, FreeFlyer, Orekit, GMAT etc.) or custom software is preferred
  2. Experience with Deep Reinforcement Learning
  3. Knowledge of Development tools
    1. Version control (Git)
    2. Project Management (Jira)
  4. Knowledge or experience in any of the following would be a plus
    1. REST API
    2. Code parallelisation
    3. Unit tests, CI
    4. Cloud computing / DevOps

  1. Insurance cover for you and your family, free access to mental health professionals, paid sick leave and other benefits (vaccination drives, etc.)
  2. Reasonably flexible working hours
  3. Get to work and regularly interact with some of the top scientists and professionals in space technology at Pixxel
  4. Get exposure to the international space community and the chance to publish research on behalf of Pixxel
