We are currently searching for Underwriting Assistants for our US Managing General Agency (MGA) team. These roles will be part of a growing underwriting department. The Underwriting Assistants will have responsibility for processing renewals and assisting underwriters in managing their books of business. Players Health is a distributed remote-first workforce with headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ideal candidates will be experienced collaborators, naturally customer-focused individuals and have experience in sports insurance; they will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation. Players Health instills a mindset of ownership and accountability with all team members providing a playbook for best practices- defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for profitable growth.
Candidates will come with 2+ years of experience as an underwriting assistant. They will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of the business plan, including new business, renewal retention, pricing, and profitability. This role comes with a salary commensurate with skills and experience, ranging between $60,000 - $95,000.

Responsibilities (are Inclusive Of But Not Limited To)
- Meet profitability, retention, and written premium goals determined by the company.
- Ability to critical think and make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority and maintains proper file documentation.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers. Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the department.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of sports & fitness segment products and services.
- Develop long-term and fruitful relationships with brokers and agents to develop and add to a profitable book of business.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and decision-making ability
- Work within broad limits and authorities on complex assignments.
- Clearly articulate the Players Health value proposition and risk appetite to brokers and agents.
- Participates in training and documentation initiatives to develop knowledge base.
- Own your results with unwavering personal daily effort standards focusing on goals, skills & career growth
- Analyzes prospective brokers and determines acceptability of risk in accordance with Company guidelines and practices in order to make the appropriate underwriting decisions.
- Collaborates with management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
- Work collaboratively within the Underwriting team and cross-departmentally to continually improve operations, process and workflows.
- Maintain thorough working knowledge of sound underwriting principles, policies, procedures, and controls.
- Create and prepare reports for management review
- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers.

- Identify areas for continuous improvement of processes to increase operational excellence
- Demonstrated responsiveness and urgency to brokers, as well as internal communication with colleagues within and across departments.
- Participate in special projects as assigned
- Travel as needed for team collaboration, events, client/carrier meetings (15%-20%)
- Other duties as assigned
- 2+ years of middle market and/or large account underwriting experience.

- Participant/involvement in or strong understanding of the youth/amateur sports landscape
- Ability to travel occasionally for team events, collaboration, engagement, conferences, or customer visits
- Must have a dedicated safe and secure remote work environment
- Must have the ability to work and be productive in a remote work environment
- Exceptionally self-motivated and ability to work autonomously
- Proactive communicator in all communication methods, including email (Outlook), verbal (in-person & phone), instant messaging (Slack & Teams)
- Willingness and ability to attend virtual meetings with camera on – we respect that there are times when employees may need to turn their camera off.
