About Players Health

At Players Health, we are on a mission to create the safest and most accessible environments for athletes to play the sports they love. This is not only our mission, but also our promise to sports. There are over 50 million youth athletes playing sports in the U.S. and they are counting on us to ensure the environment that they are coming into not only accepts them for who they are, but fills them with encouragement, love, inspiration, and so much more.

Players Health is a VC and PE-backed, mission-driven, sports technology platform providing risk management services, reporting tools, and insurance products to sports organizations. We operate as both a Managing General Agent (MGA) and an insurance brokerage - a dual-model that creates a uniquely complex and fast-moving production accounting environment.

Our Core Values

We cannot achieve our mission without having a strong culture. We believe that at the core of a strong culture is a shared set of values. The values that we hold true and look for our employees to embrace are:

  • Lead with Mission: Our mission always comes first. If we stay on mission as an organization, then we believe we will be successful in our professional and personal lives.
  • Go Beyond: We're not satisfied with just "good enough" - we go above and beyond to achieve awesome results that impress and inspire.
  • Operate like Owners: We believe in operational excellence. We take ownership of our work and approach every task with a sense of pride, responsibility, and commitment to excellence. We don't just rent our roles - we own them and strive to make a lasting impact.
  • Virtue First: From the big decisions to the small details; honesty, integrity, and transparency are the bedrock of our culture and the foundation for everything we do.
  • Service: We live to serve others with humility, empathy, and kindness. We put our customers, colleagues and community first, and always strive to exceed their expectations with a smile.

About the Role

The Senior Accountant II is a senior individual contributor on a small, high-ownership finance team at a scaling insurance technology company. This role is the functional expert for all production accounting across our MGA and brokerage operations – owning the accuracy and integrity of premium, commission, and carrier settlement accounting from end-to-end.

You’ll bring deep insurance accounting expertise and apply it in an environment where the processes, systems and controls are still being shaped. This is not a role where you inherit a fully built machine and maintain it - you’ll have the opportunity to evaluate what exists, identify what’s missing, and partner with leadership to build toward something more scalable and efficient. You’ll operate both hands-on and strategically, partnering closely with underwriting, operations, HR, and other departments.

The ideal candidate has spent meaningful time in MGA, wholesale brokerage, or carrier accounting environments, understand the nuances of bordereaux reporting, trust accounting, and carrier settlements, and brings the mindset of a builder – someone who sees a manual process as an opportunity, not just a task. The Senior Accountant II has a compensation range of $100,000 - $130,000, depending on skills and experience.

Players Health is a remote-first organization. This role has a preference for candidates located in the Minneapolis, MN area, as some in-person collaboration will be expected. Periodic travel may also be required for team events and development.

You will join an organization going through significant growth as well as digital transformation. We instill a mindset of ownership and accountability with all team members, building a “playbook” for best practices – defining expectations to meet the vision and strategy for growth.

Players Health offers a competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, 401(k), and additional ancillary benefits. Additional benefits include a remote-first workforce, Flexible PTO, and 10 company paid holidays.

Responsibilities (are inclusive of but not limited to)

Production Accounting Operations

  • Lead daily production accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of premium, commissions, and carrier settlements, along with effective reconciliation of related accounts

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly close of production-related accounts, including reconciliation of bordereaux, carrier statements, and trust accounts
  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory requirements, including trust accounting rules and carrier reporting obligations
  • Support accurate accounting and reporting for MGA operations, including premium flows, commission calculations, and carrier reporting
  • Assist with monthly reporting to insurance carrier partners and ensure timely reconciliation of MGA-related accounts
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (underwriting, operations) to ensure insurance transactions are properly captured and coded in the GL

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as receivables aging, cash application timing, and carrier settlement cycles
  • Evaluate and implement third-party vendors and technology solutions to enhance accounting efficiency and scalability
  • Participate in and lead special projects, including process improvements and operational enhancements

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting

  • Strong operational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and deadlines
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence outcomes and drive process improvements without direct authority
  • Demonstrated ability to identify operational gaps and build toward more scalable solutions – not just maintain existing processes
  • High integrity and sound professional judgment when handling sensitive and confidential matters

  • Must be 18 years or older and work location must be in the United States
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
