Sculpt Artist

The Role:
The Sculpt Artist will carve/sculpt out of Styrofoam using a variety of hand tools to produce products as depicted in production drawings and illustrations. Sculpt Artists must have strong attention to detail and a proven ability to understand and replicate specified drawings. The Sculpt Artist will also utilize the FrogWire machines (load, program and monitor), although will work primarily with visual cues and freehand to cut to precisely sculpted pieces with minimal irregularities. The Sculpt Artist I has a demonstrated ability to perform duties with direction and under the supervision of the Team Lead and Manager, and has a basic understanding of role processes, tools and technologies.

This role is a part of playground fabrication, taking styrofoam and reductive-sculpting following detailed drawings. It's perfect for someone who wants a hands-on job and takes pride in executing with a high degree of accuracy and precision. This is a Monday-Friday role, from 7am - 3:30pm at our Englewood office. Essential Job Results:
  • Transform blocks of Styrofoam into play element shapes, per SOP, using sculpture and a variety of hand tools and hot wire machines.
  • Produce a high quality replication of the production and detail drawing.
  • Use, maintain and clean hand tools and other equipment.
  • Sculpt play elements based on 2D illustrations and/or photo reference.
  • Unload billets of Styrofoam upon delivery and recycle unused Styrofoam.
  • Program, monitor and run the FrogWire machines as necessary.
  • Use “Froth Pak” as necessary to add extra mass, fill in gaps/cracks and aid in the security of water features and internal supports.
  • Accurately respond to verbal and visual feedback regarding the sculptures and play elements.
  • Ability to iterate through review cycles with both creative and non-creative stakeholders without frustration.
  • Sculptors must be able to break down sculpts for production efficiency.
  • Manage multiple projects and deliver quality sculpts on time in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Maintain a clean workspace, to include putting away tools, sweeping, cord management, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • High School Education or GED (preferred).
  • Formal art training (preferred).
  • Strong visual style, with an ability to deliver crisp, detailed final sculpts.
  • Comprehend methods and techniques of reductive sculpting, with prior experience with principles and practices used in sculpting.
  • Understand operational characteristics of tools and equipment.
  • Artistically dexterous - Experience working within multiple brand styles (ie highly stylized vs realistic), as well as generating unique visual identities
  • Familiarity with practices relating to health and safety involved in sculpting.
  • Proficient with methods and techniques of storing equipment, materials and supplies.

orking Conditions:
  • This is a production environment with exposure to heat, noise, chemicals, etc.
  • Carrying, pushing or pulling parts to area.
  • Lifting and bending frequently.
  • Steel toed shoes are required at all times.
  • Safety Glasses are required at all times.
  • Hearing protection is required only in specified areas.
