POSITION DESCRIPTION

Team Leader

Metals 1st Shift


Department: Metals
Approved By: Human Resources
FLSA Status: Hourly


SUMMARY: This position is responsible for facilitating employee activities and motivating the team toward achieving shift and departmental goals through effective communication skills and fair implementation and administration of company policies. The Team Leader’s responsibility includes employee safety and welfare, staff development, quality, productivity enhancements and general housekeeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures a safe work environment is maintained including required safety training. Ensures environmental standards are maintained.

  • Possesses a willingness to be mentored by a member of senior leadership. Serves as a liaison between production department employees and Supervisor/Manager.

  • Ensures housekeeping expectations are maintained including 5S+1 process

  • Provides day-to-day leadership to ensure a high performance, customer-oriented work environment that supports achieving the department and company mission, objectives, values and goals.

  • Working knowledge of all machines, equipment and assembly.

  • Schedules and assigns work including the maintaining of labor levels required on a day to day basis in all areas of department.

  • Prepares and reviews production reports and actively participates in necessary meetings and GEMBA boards.

  • Maintains supply levels for all areas of department.

  • Assists in Planning, coordinating, and evaluating the performance of assigned personnel, establishes performance requirements and personal development targets.

  • Regularly monitors performance including attendance record keeping on a timely basis.

  • Provides coaching for performance improvement and development; identify and recommend performance deficiencies in a fair, consistent manner and on a timely basis.

  • Assists in implementation and maintaining of all manufacturing methods used by department, including ISO procedures.

  • Facilitate implementing and maintaining TPS processes.

  • Facilitate problem solving tools including root cause analysis for internal and external quality concerns in a timely manner.

  • Ensure a successful hand off between shifts on a daily basis including communication of production expectations, quality concerns, housekeeping, etc.

  • Conducts staff meetings, including stand up meetings and tailgates.

  • Maintains professionalism by adhering to conduct guidelines and modeling behavior of a leader.

  • Supports company initiatives as a leader of business.

  • Approves time records in Human Resources Information System.

  • Uses Applicant Tracking Database to post positions and promotions. Participates in the interviewing and on boarding process.

  • Maintain tact, professionalism and diplomacy in all communication to managers, co-workers, peers, and production team members in all methods of communication including written, verbal, and non-verbal cues.

TEAM LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; monitoring and evaluating employee performance in completing proficiency training for employees.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.

  • Two to five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence such as emails, and procedure manuals such as training materials. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions when corresponding with groups of managers, clients, customers, employees, peers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts. Ability to apply the concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Requires working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook. Requires basic knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Adobe Reader. Requires extensive knowledge of Syteline and Tracker. Requires ability to learn new software programs as technology advances.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to Multi-task, follow-through on assigned tasks to completion, and work without supervision. Ability to develop working relationships with a variety of people. Ability to possess a strong attention to detail and strong sense of urgency.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT:

Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the attendance policy stated in the company’s employee handbook. Must be available and willing to work overtime hours as the employer determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs. Must be available and willing to work such weekends and/or holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
