Company Description

Pod People is a full-service podcast and multimedia production company working with global brands, tech companies, and media teams to create content that always finds its audience.

As audience behavior evolves, we're seeing a fundamental shift in how podcast content is discovered and consumed. Increasingly, audiences encounter shows through short-form video, social-first storytelling, creator collaborations, and platform-native content before they ever listen to a full episode.

Role Description

We're looking for a Director of Social Media to build and lead Pod People’s growing social media practice.

This person will be the strategic leader for social across our clients and our business—defining what best-in-class social looks like, developing tailored strategies, and building the playbooks, workflows, team structure, and offerings that allow us to deliver that strategy at scale.

You'll sit under the Marketing department and work closely with our production, creative, and business development teams to define how social should shape the way podcast and media brands are developed, packaged, and marketed in 2026 and beyond.

This is a strategic and entrepreneurial role for someone who can move fluidly between big-picture social strategy and the systems required to bring that strategy to life. You should have excellent creative taste and a strong point of view on social. You will help define the creative direction, standards, and strategic territories that allow a creative team to do its best work.

Responsibilities:

Lead Client Social Strategy

  • Lead the development, execution, and evolution of social media strategies for Pod People clients across Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, and emerging platforms
  • Translate client business and audience objectives into clear social strategies, channel roles, content pillars, audience development strategies, and measurement frameworks
  • Define the role social should play within a broader podcast, content, or brand ecosystem—not simply as a distribution channel for existing content
  • Develop differentiated social points of view for clients and identify the formats, storytelling approaches, and creative territories most likely to resonate with their audiences
  • Use audience insights, platform behavior, cultural trends, and performance data to inform and continuously refine strategy
  • Serve as the senior strategic voice on social in client conversations, pitches, workshops, and internal development
  • Establish a high creative and strategic bar for the social work we produce

Build the Social Practice: Playbooks, Workflows, and Team

  • Define and evolve Pod People's social media offerings, including what we sell, how we scope it, and how we deliver it
  • Build repeatable social strategy frameworks, playbooks, templates, briefs, and best practices that can be applied across clients while still allowing for tailored strategy
  • Develop scalable workflows for social strategy, creative development, production, publishing, analytics, and optimization
  • Help determine the right team structure, roles, capabilities, and staffing model to support the growth of the social practice

Guide Creative Direction and Client Work

  • Partner with creative and production teams to translate social strategy into strong, platform-native creative
  • Guide creative direction for client campaigns, launches, and ongoing social programs
  • Develop and refine creative territories, content pillars, and repeatable formats that give creative teams a clear strategic foundation
  • Collaborate with producers, editors, marketers, and clients to identify compelling stories, moments, and opportunities for social
  • Provide thoughtful feedback on creative concepts and executions, ensuring they are strategically aligned, culturally relevant, and native to the platform
  • Present social strategies, creative direction, and recommendations to clients and executive stakeholders
  • Stay current on emerging trends in social storytelling, creator media, platform behavior, and audience development and determine which trends are strategically relevant rather than simply chasing what is popular

Cross Functional Leadership Development

  • Partner with production and marketing teams to integrate social strategy into show development and production workflows
  • Collaborate with Business Development on proposals, pitches, and the development of new social offerings
  • Mentor team members and contribute to department growth

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in social media strategy, content strategy, digital media, creator marketing, or related fields
  • Extensive experience leading social strategy for brands, media properties, and agencies
  • Demonstrated experience turning business and audience objectives into differentiated social strategies
  • Experience building frameworks, processes, playbooks, or teams—not just executing social content
  • Experience presenting to clients and executive stakeholders
  • Experience developing content strategies across multiple social platforms
  • Strong understanding of social analytics, audience development, and content performance
  • Strong creative judgment and an excellent eye for what makes social content compelling, culturally relevant, and platform-native
  • Deep knowledge of all major social channels (YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, X)

Bonus Experience

  • Experience building or leading a social media department or function
  • Agency experience and/or experience working across multiple clients
  • Experience working with business/tech and lifestyle/entertainment content

Desired Characteristics

  • Strategic: Starts with the audience and business objective, then builds the social approach—not the other way around
  • Systems-oriented: Enjoys turning ambiguous problems into clear frameworks, processes, and repeatable ways of working
  • Entrepreneurial: Excited to build something that doesn't fully exist yet and comfortable figuring things out along the way
  • Creative with strong taste: Has a clear point of view on what good social looks like and can articulate why something works
  • A strong communicator: Can make complex strategic thinking clear and compelling to both clients and internal teams
  • Collaborative: Knows how to bring strategists, creatives, producers, editors, and clients together around a shared direction
  • Self-directed: Comfortable owning a function and creating structure where there isn't one yet
  • Pragmatic: Knows when to pursue a new opportunity and when to build a repeatable process around what already works
  • A builder and leader: Thinks not only about the work being done today, but about the team, systems, and capabilities needed to make the practice successful over time

Compensation and Benefits

This is a remote, full-time role with a salary in the range of $85,000 - $105,000 annually. Pod People covers 70% of premiums on healthcare, generous PTO, and a 3-day weekend each month. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive company culture with every addition we make to our team.
