The People team is responsible for the entire lifecycle of the employee journey at Preply. This includes everything from onboarding and offboarding, compliance, total rewards and benefits, HR systems and analytics, as well as key People projects related to employee engagement, career development and frameworks, amongst others.
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll & Operations Specialist (Global) to join our People Operations team. You’ll be responsible for the accurate and compliant execution of payroll across multiple countries, including Ukraine, Germany, the US, and for international contractors. You will play a key role in ensuring timely compensation, data integrity, and alignment between HR, legal, finance, and external vendors.
What you’ll be doing:
Global Payroll Operations
- Process payroll accurately and on time across multiple countries (Germany, US, Ukraine, and others)
- Manage compensation for different worker types: full-time employees, contractors, and EoRs (Employer of Record)
- Liaise with external vendors (e.g., Deel) to validate calculations and resolve discrepancies
- Ensure payroll compliance with local labor laws, tax requirements, and social security contributions
- Reconcile payroll reports against internal systems and accounting records (e.g., NetSuite)
Data Accuracy & Compliance
- Collect, validate, and input variable payroll data: bonuses, overtime, leave, commissions, allowances, etc.
- Ensure correct application of benefits, deductions, and internal absence policies
- Cross-check labor contracts and compensation with payroll data to ensure consistency
- Support audits, reporting, and documentation for internal and external reviewers
- Maintain payroll documentation and employee records according to local regulations
People Operations & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Manage full-cycle hiring and offboarding processes in compliance with Ukrainian labor law, providing timely HR administrative support to employees.
- Maintain and update electronic employee records, including personnel files, vacation and leave balances, electronic sick leave registers, and military service documentation.
- Coordinate with People Ops, Legal, and Finance teams to align contracts, policies, and payments
- Act as a trusted point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, helping them understand compensation and deductions
- Suggest and implement process improvements, automation, and workflow optimization across payroll systems
What you need to succeed:
- Proven experience in payroll processing across multiple geographies (especially Ukraine, Germany, US)
- Strong knowledge of Ukrainian labor law and payroll regulations
- Experience working with third-party payroll providers, including EoR platforms
- Familiarity with tools like Deel, Lano, and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite)
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Fluent in English (intermediate or higher); Ukrainian or German is a plus
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines, especially during payroll cutoffs and year-end reporting
