The Director of Business Development and Scientific Solutions will sit at the intersection of commercial growth and real-world scientific applications, turning customer needs into winning solutions and product direction. This role partners closely with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and R&D to identify new opportunities (including new geographies), develop and demonstrate tailored instrumentation solutions, and guide product development using customer feedback and market trends.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development of new applications for existing products, ensuring alignment with market needs.
- Collaborate with the sales team to identify customer needs and develop tailored solutions that demonstrate the value of our products.
- Conduct product demonstrations, training sessions, and workshops for customers, distributors, and internal teams.
- Participate in product development projects, providing insights based on customer feedback and application trends.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, including global distribution channel networks.
- Provide technical expertise and support to customers, addressing inquiries related to product applications, usage, and troubleshooting.
- Drive new product development by collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, and R&D, to ensure successful project execution.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and new geographical areas in the instrumentation market.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional materials and strategies to support business development initiatives.
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and product demonstrations to potential clients.
- Provide feedback to sales and marketing team regarding market conditions and competitive landscape.
- Travel to attend conferences, trade shows, and industry events to represent the company and promote products.
- Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and competitor offerings to inform product development and marketing strategies.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience in scientific/technical business development within instrumentation (or closely related lab/industrial technology markets), with a track record of driving growth.
- Strong application science + commercial instincts: able to translate technical capabilities into customer outcomes, ROI, and clear differentiation.
- Proven customer-facing skills, including leading product demos, trainings, workshops, and executive-level presentations without melting into awkwardness.
- Comfort collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, and R&D to move opportunities and product initiatives forward.
- Product development exposure, especially bringing “voice of customer” insights into roadmap, requirements, and go-to-market planning.
- Partner/distribution experience, ideally building and maintaining relationships with global channel or distribution networks.
- Technical problem-solving ability to support customers with applications, usage guidance, and troubleshooting, and to escalate effectively when needed.
- Market awareness and competitive savvy: capable of monitoring trends and competitor offerings and turning that into practical strategy.
- Willingness to travel for conferences, trade shows, and customer/partner engagements.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to simplify complex concepts for different audiences.
- Education: BS required in a relevant scientific/engineering field; an advanced degree (MS/PhD) is a plus
