Are you passionate about building reliable hardware that gets deployed in the real world? At ReelData, we design and build underwater camera systems and AI software that enable fish farms to operate efficiently and sustainably. As a Hardware Technician, you’ll join a small, empowered team in Dartmouth and take products from parts on a bench to operational systems in the water.

Why this role matters

ReelData’s cameras operate in demanding marine environments where failure isn’t an option. You’ll have a direct impact on the quality and reliability of our systems by assembling, calibrating and testing hardware, maintaining documentation and feeding back insights to our engineering and product teams. Success looks like hardware that installs smoothly, performs flawlessly and provides data that helps growers feed fish responsibly.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build & validate hardware: assemble, calibrate and test cameras; perform incoming and outgoing quality inspections; and decommission units at end of life.
  • Support iteration: work with product leads to validate new designs, identify manufacturability issues and suggest improvements.
  • Troubleshoot & support: diagnose field issues, manage returns and failure analyses, and occasionally visit fish farms to see systems in action.
  • Document & organize: maintain build instructions, work orders and bills of materials; help kit parts and manage inventory.

What you bring

  • Technical diploma or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Experience (roughly 3–5 years) in assembling or servicing mechanical/electromechanical products.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and use hand tools confidently.
  • Familiarity with torque specifications, sealing methods and basic electronics is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn new tools (CAD, ERP, Linux/CLI, scripting) and to collaborate across disciplines.

What’s in it for you

  • Competitive salary: approximately $55 000–$70 000 CAD, reflective of Nova Scotia market rates.
  • Health & dental coverage: 100 % employer‑paid for you and your dependants.
  • RRSP matching with increasing contributions over time.
  • Wellness and home‑office allowances to support your physical and mental health.
  • Paid vacation: 3 weeks to start.
  • Parental leave top‑up and continued benefits during leave.
  • The chance to see your work deployed in fish farms around the world and to influence future product designs.

Our culture

We’re a small, fast‑moving team where your contributions are visible and valued. We believe in empowering people to make decisions, ask questions and grow. You’ll work closely with our Head of Hardware, product leaders and software engineers, and you’ll have the autonomy to manage your day while knowing the team has your back.

Inclusion & Accessibility

We know diverse teams build better products. ReelData encourages applications from women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized individuals and people from other under‑represented groups. If you don’t meet every qualification but are excited about this role, we’d still like to hear from you. We’re committed to a fair and accessible hiring process and will provide accommodations upon request.
