Data Lead
We are looking for a Data Lead to take full ownership of our data engineering culture and practices. You will coordinate a team of 4 data engineers, collaborating directly with the CTO, while bridging data systems and the rest of the organization. You will inherit a solid foundation and make it more reliable, scalable, and better documented, while contributing to expanding our data products and participating in hiring decisions.
Key responsibilities
Team leadership
- Coordinate day-to-day tasks and priorities for the 4-person data engineering team
- Act as primary technical reference for all data-related decisions
- Mentor junior and mid-level data engineers
- Participate in hiring and technical interviews for data positions
Data infrastructure
- Improve and evolve data pipelines covering ingestion, normalization, and storage
- Identify and address bottlenecks in data capture and processing workflows
- Design and enforce best practices for large structured and semi-structured data
- Manage and optimize data infrastructure hosted on Azure
- Work hands-on with Apache Airflow for pipeline orchestration
Quality and observability
- Define and implement a data validation and QA strategy across pipelines
- Build monitoring and alerting mechanisms to detect data issues early
- Drive a culture of data reliability and proactive observability
Standards and products
- Own technical documentation, coding guidelines, and architectural decisions
- Collaborate with product and ops to translate data needs into requirements
- Contribute to expanding our data products, datasets, and data APIs

Required qualifications
- 3+ years leading or technically coordinating data engineering teams
- 3+ years of hands-on Python development in a data engineering context
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL and relational data
- Proven ability to handle large data volumes and design performant architectures
- High proficiency in English in an English-first technical environment
- Background in data quality, monitoring, or observability practices
Nice to have
- Experience in the energy sector (utilities, renewables, ISOs/RTOs)
- Familiarity with Apache Airflow
- Experience working with Azure cloud services
