Company Overview:

Reportwell is a pioneering platform dedicated to simplifying regulatory compliance and reporting for schools, authorizers, districts, and state agencies. Founded in 2023, Reportwell is designed to streamline the often complex and time-consuming tasks associated with compliance, ensuring that educational institutions consistently meet their regulatory obligations.

Position Overview

Reportwell is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to drive the development of our SaaS platform, supporting public sector clients with powerful, user-friendly reporting tools. In this role, you’ll build and maintain end-to-end application features, from intuitive front-end components to secure, scalable backend services—while also contributing to infrastructure and DevOps best practices.

This position is ideal for a product-oriented engineer with strong backend experience, solid frontend proficiency, and hands-on AWS knowledge. You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team and report to the Chief Product Officer.

This is a hybrid role - this Full Stack Engineer will be working in-person at our Detroit office 3 days a week and 2 days remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Development: Design, build, and maintain web application features using modern full stack technologies.
  • Backend Engineering: Architect and build secure, scalable APIs and background services, ensuring performance and maintainability (Python, Django, Typescript, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB).
  • Frontend Engineering: Implement responsive UI components and seamless user experiences using a component-based frontend framework (React/Redux).
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Improve our AWS environment (including EC2, Fargate, IAM, S3, RDS). Troubleshoot and optimize cloud configurations and service interactions.
  • DevOps Support: Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), orchestration (ECS or similar), and monitoring systems. Participate in on-call rotation and system troubleshooting.
  • Technical Strategy: Work with leadership on architectural decisions, technical roadmap planning, and long-term platform evolution.
  • Team Collaboration: Conduct code reviews, and participate in sprint planning. Collaborate with design and product to align engineering with business goals.
  • AI Integration: Integrate AI and automation tools to streamline reporting workflows for clients.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years in full-stack development with emphasis on backend services, cloud infrastructure, and system design.
  • System Design: Understanding of containers, RESTful APIs, relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), and scalable application architecture.
  • AWS Proficiency: Experience with AWS (IAM, EC2/Fargate, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and troubleshooting across services).
  • DevOps Skills: Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions), infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform), and Docker.
  • Technical Stack: Proficient in Python, Django, Typescript, React/Redux, PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, and cloud-native application design patterns.
  • Communication: Strong technical communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and explain complex systems to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $90,000 - $115,000 per year
  • Performance Bonus: Up to 10% of annual salary
  • Healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision reimbursement
  • 401(k): 6% match, fully vested after 2 years
  • Equity vesting: Available for select candidates
  • PTO: 24 days annually + national holidays
  • Flexibility: in-person in our Detroit office 3 days a week. 2 days remote.
