JOB TITLE: Science/STEM Kit Packer -Summer Temporary Employee

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

FUNDING SOURCE: Local

REPORTS TO: Director of Science Discovery Education

PAY GRADE: $20.00

Department: Science Discovery Education

PRIMARY PURPOSE: This position is temporary (Summer 2026). Employees will assist in preparing and packaging Science and STEM kits for distribution to campuses.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED, required

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to move 45 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to work on their feet for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, carry and move materials repeatedly.
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.

Major Responsibilities And Job Duties

  • Operate box cutters, dollies, flatbeds and hand trucks safely.
  • Label, package and organize boxes for shipment to campuses.
  • Flexibility to report to various sites in district if required.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Science Discovery, STEM and C&I staff.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: box cutter, tape roller, skid jack, dollies, flatbeds and hand trucks

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Science/STEM Kit Packer - 2

Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive packing, taping and moving boxes. Stacking and packaging.

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (up to 45 pounds); may lift and move science materials, liquids, solids and boxes.

Environment: Elliott Facility, District Warehouse

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control in a fast-paced environment. Perform as a contributing member of a team.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
