You’ll step in as the principal owner of our engineering foundation, working shoulder-to-shoulder with a fractional CPTO who supplies context and mentorship while leaving day-to-day technical direction in your hands.

What You’ll Do

• 50% Architecture & hands-on development: Lead the design and delivery of new features across our TypeScript codebase (currently React / Next.js on the front end and Node.js on the back end). Evaluate and choose the future front-end, back-end, and data evolutions that best serve our needs.

• 20% Operational excellence: Establish a robust DevOps practice (CI/CD, observability, automated testing, security). Our existing stack is cloud-native and serverless-leaning; you’ll decide how it evolves.

• 10% AI & data intelligence: Ship features that classify content, surface anomalies, and generate narrative insights using LLMs, embeddings, and vector search as appropriate.

• 10% Technical leadership: Set engineering standards, mentor teammates, and represent technology in customer and partnership conversations.

• 10% Product collaboration: Work closely with the CEO, CCO, fractional CPTO, and Head of operations to shape roadmap, balance tech debt, and keep RootNote delightful for creators and larger teams.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Have

• 8+ years professional software development, 3+ years in senior/lead roles.

• Expert-level TypeScript/JavaScript on both Node.js and modern front-end frameworks (React, Next.js, Remix, etc.).

• Enthusiasm for the latest in AI powered software engineering tools + agents (Claude code, Cursor, etc.)

• Proven success architecting and operating cloud-hosted, event-driven or microservice systems at production scale. (Our current footprint is on AWS; direct AWS experience especially with Amplify is a plus, but depth in GCP, Azure, or comparable platforms works just as well.)

• Experience ingesting and modeling data from third-party APIs and exposing analytics via REST and/or GraphQL.

• A bias for simplicity, testability, cost awareness, and rapid iteration in a startup context.

• Clear, pragmatic communication and the confidence to set technical direction while welcoming healthy debate.

Bonus Points

• Deep familiarity with AWS serverless services (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, CDK) or equivalent patterns on other clouds.

• Hands-on work with generative-AI or ML services in shipped products (prompt / context engineering, data pipelines, etc).

• Infrastructure-as-Code expertise (CDK, Terraform, Pulumi).

• Prior work in MarTech, AdTech, creator-economy tooling, or sports/entertainment analytics.

• Exposure to modern data-platform components (Kafka/Kinesis/PubSub, dbt, Snowflake, ClickHouse, pgvector).

• Understanding of SOC 2, GDPR/CCPA, or NIL compliance requirements.
