About SAILWINT
SAILWINT is on a disruptive impact mission to build sailing wind turbine ships that produce and deliver low-cost, clean and highly scalable energy/hydrogen from the ocean. Key Responsibilities
As a Founding Marine Engineer/Naval Architect, you will co-lead the design, engineering, development and integration of all naval architecture related aspects of the SAILWINT ships. You will:
- Support operations and execution of industry partner pilots with existing SAILWINT prototypes
- Enhance existing prototypes based on pilot learnings and test campaigns with your hands-on maker mindset
- Refine the calculations on static and dynamic loads on SAILWINT ship structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Perform advanced hydrodynamic analysis for hull form optimization based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) ensuring high performance in complex and rough ocean environments
- Own the overall ship design including producing P&ID, BOM, and MEL
- Plan and oversee the construction process, work with shipyards, manufacturers, and suppliers to ensure high standards in build quality and regulatory compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and maritime regulations esp. compliance with IMDG code from the IMO, including preparation for certification with relevant classification societies
- Liaise with maritime UAV insurance providers to optimize insurance policies for SAILWINT ships
- Collaborate in system integration of SAILWINT’s naval architecture with wind turbine energy generation and sailing mechanism, end-to-end battery and hydrogen stack and overarching semi-autonomous digital control system
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
- 3-5+ years of experience or PhD in ship design, marine engineering, or naval architecture, with a strong focus on innovation
- Proven experience in structural mechanics FEA and hydrodynamic CFD analysis, marine system design, and vessel construction
- Proven project experience in prototype/pilot development that showcase hands-on maker skills and a passion for disruptive innovation
- Familiarity with offshore wind energy systems, battery and hydrogen technology is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and team work skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment
- Ability to work closely with the founding team in a hybrid work setup in Berlin with an entrepreneurial mindset
