About SAILWINT

SAILWINT is on a disruptive impact mission to build sailing wind turbine ships that produce and deliver low-cost, clean and highly scalable energy/hydrogen from the ocean. Our purpose is to overcome energy dependency, the fossil fuel age and lower significantly the cost and availability of clean energy/hydrogen to boost economic and social development.

Key Responsibilities

As a Founding Wind Turbine Engineer, you will co-lead the selection, engineering, development and integration of all wind turbine related aspects of the SAILWINT ships. You will:

  • Support operations and execution of industry partner pilots with existing SAILWINT prototypes
  • Enhance existing prototypes based on pilot learnings and test campaigns with your hands-on maker mindset
  • Refine selection of market-available industry-proven wind turbines for different scale-up versions of the SAILWINT ships
  • Collaborate with SAILWINT naval architecture team to integrate calculations of wind turbine static and dynamic loads into SAILWINT ship structure loads using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Perform advanced aerodynamic analysis for wind turbine control optimizations based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and condition monitoring system (CMS) data analysis and integration to ensure high performance in complex and rough ocean environments
  • Plan and oversee the sourcing and integration process, work with wind turbine OEMs, resellers, and EPC service providers to ensure high standards in build quality and regulatory compliance
  • Program the wind turbine control system to optimize wind energy production and sailing propulsion
  • Collaborate in system integration of SAILWINT’s wind turbines with naval architecture, end-to-end battery and hydrogen stack and overarching semi-autonomous digital control system

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on fluid dynamics, aerodynamics, rotor dynamics, structural analysis, and control systems of (offshore) wind turbines
  • 3-5+ years of experience or PhD in wind turbine engineering, with a strong focus on innovation, experience in floating offshore wind is a strong plus
  • Proven experience in structural mechanics FEA and aerodynamic CFD analysis for wind turbine optimization
  • Proven project experience in prototype/pilot development that showcase hands-on maker skills and a passion for disruptive innovation
  • Familiarity with maritime systems, battery and hydrogen technology is a plus
  • Strong problem-solving and team work skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment
  • Ability to work closely with the founding team in a hybrid work setup in Berlin with an entrepreneurial mindset
