Role: CNC Machinist
Location: San Diego, CA
Salary: $75,000 - $120,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.
Role Overview:
We’re looking for a skilled machinist to help accelerate our vehicle production and R&D processes. In this role, you will work alongside fast-moving design engineers and builders to bring drawings or whiteboard sketches into the real world. Your primary role will be running shop machinery to create tools, jigs, and parts to accelerate manufacturing timelines and keep production moving forward. You are a proactive and self-motivated individual who thrives in busy environments. You have proven experience in a machine shop environment and you’re skilled using CAM software, CNC and manual machines, hand tools and power tools. You like to get things done and are willing to tinker on projects that come up from time to time outside of your usual daily tasks.
Role Details:
Specific daily tasks will include:
- Machine composite parts rapidly to keep up with production flow
- Building and assisting in the design of fixtures, tooling, jigs, etc.
- Running the following machinery in an efficient, high-quality, and safe manner:
- Large-bed ShopBot CNC router table
- Jet manual mill
- OMTech CO2 laser cutter
- Bambu Lab and Prusa i3 MK3 3D printers
- Manual lathe that’s older than the internet but still works great
- Genmitsu mini router table
- Axiom router table
- Prototyping new parts with fast turnarounds
- Searching for speed and process refinements to increase production efficiency
- Assembling and conducting QA on incoming parts from external suppliers

About You:
Key skills and desired traits are:
- 3+ years of machining and fabrication experience
- Experience machining composites
- Ability to machine accurately, but strong preference for moving fast rather than reaching ultra-high tolerances
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Experience with CAM software (Fusion360 or similar, required)
- Experience with part trimming and trim fixture design
- Experience prototyping with small (3 - 25 people) engineering teams
- Communication skills – with vendors and internal team
- Attention to detail – checking clearances and tolerances, creating drawings for suppliers, etc.
- Organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
