Role: Material Production Manager

Location: San Diego, CA

Salary: $75,000 - $120,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.

Role Overview:
Seasats is expanding its operational infrastructure to support increasing production volume and complexity. As part of this effort, we’re adding a Material Production Manager to bring structure, clarity, and accountability to how material data and inventory flow through the organization.

The Material Production Manager owns the material lifecycle, ensuring that parts move cleanly from engineering definition through vendor selection, purchasing, receiving, inventory, sub-assembly, and final installation into a vehicle. This role is responsible for maintaining a trusted Single Source of Truth (SSOT) for parts and inventory and for ensuring that changes at any point in the lifecycle are reflected everywhere else.

Role Details:
The Material Production Manager will establish standards, close gaps between teams, and create feedback loops that keep engineering, procurement, and production aligned as Seasats scales. You will:

SSOT & Inventory Ownership

  • Own and maintain the Single Source of Truth (SSOT) within ION (our MES platform) for parts, BOMs, inventory, vendors, and pricing - ensuring material data is accurate, current, and trusted across engineering, procurement, and production
  • Drive adoption, discipline, and continuous improvement of material workflows in ION as production scales

Engineering Change Integration

  • Work with Mechanical Engineering on a top-down approach to update SSOT BOMs resulting from part changes or revisions
  • Work with Composites, Electrical, and other technicians on a bottom-up approach when on-the-ground realities require part or BOM changes
  • Ensure that engineering changes are reflected consistently across purchasing, inventory, and production

Purchasing & Vendor Coordination

  • Partner closely with the purchasing team to ensure correct vendor, pricing, and lead-time information is reflected in the SSOT
  • Ensure that part changes or new revisions are clearly communicated so the correct parts are ordered
  • Step in to place purchase orders when the purchasing team is occupied with vehicle shipments or other priorities

Inventory & Material Flow

  • Work with Mechanical Engineering and the purchasing team to ensure every part has a bin and every bin is clearly labeled
  • Partner with the Facilities Manager to ensure bins are cleanly organized, and stored in appropriate locations, and archived when appropriate

Supplier Accountability & Risk Management

  • Work with the Engineering Program Manager and purchasing team to identify parts that may hold up a build
  • Proactively chase vendors who are late, unresponsive, or at risk of impacting production
  • Partner with the Quality team to track incoming part quality issues and follow up with suppliers as needed

About You:
You’re someone who naturally thinks in flows, dependencies, and systems. You care deeply about accuracy, traceability, and follow-through, and you understand how small material errors can become large problems. Key qualifications include:

  • Experience in materials management, production planning, supply chain, or manufacturing operations
  • Comfort owning and maintaining BOMs, inventory systems, and part metadata
  • Strong attention to detail paired with the ability to see the full material lifecycle
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, procurement, quality, and facilities
  • Confidence coordinating with vendors and following up on delivery or quality issues
  • Willingness to be hands-on in the system when needed to keep production moving
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

    About Seasats:
At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you’ll find the space and opportunity to do your life’s best work.

Along with your salary, you’ll receive perks including:

    • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
    • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
    • Four free lunches per week
    • An employee activity fund
    • A pet-friendly office
    • Unlimited/Flex PTO

    Hiring Notes:

When applying, you’ll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.
