Flight Operations Instructor

This is your chance to play a defining role in a new kind of flight operation.

Critical infrastructure is under growing pressure, meaning inspections must scale to meet demand. You’ll help set the standard for the pilots who make that possible.

sees.ai flies UAS to collect close visual inspection data for critical national infrastructure operators, pioneering the safe, routine BVLOS operations behind it — with technology built end-to-end in-house. We’re already operating at scale with National Grid and expanding internationally across Europe. We have a well-established relationship with the CAA and are consolidating our training structure as we progress towards RAE status.

As the business scales, effective training and competency programmes will be a key enabler. We’re looking for an experienced aviation instructor who can bring strong instructional and assessment skills from military or crewed aviation and apply them to our emerging UAS operation.

You do not need to be an established UAS instructor. What matters is that you understand aviation training, operational standards and competency assessment, and have a genuine interest in developing your knowledge of UAS and BVLOS operations.

The Role

As Flight Operations Instructor, you’ll take responsibility for the delivery of training, assessment and continued competency for the pilots conducting our flight operations. You’ll help take remote pilots and flight crew from initial qualification through to the advanced standards our Specific category and BVLOS operations demand, in full alignment with CAA requirements.

Reporting to the Flight Operations Training and Quality Manager, you’ll deliver instruction, run assessments and skills tests, and help drive competency across the Flight Operations Team.

What You’ll Do

We’re a fast-growing UAS technology company and service provider. The basic training function is well established and closely aligned with the CAA, but the pace of our scaling means it now needs to move to its next stage: more pilots, more operations and higher throughput without any loss of standard.

You’ll bring established aviation instructional experience while developing your knowledge of our UAS platforms, operating environment and regulatory framework. Over time, you’ll help shape how the training function evolves and build the capability that scales with the business.

Your key areas of responsibility:

  • UAS system instruction: Plan and deliver classroom, simulator and in-the-field training across the full remote pilot syllabus, alongside company-specific type conversions and operational training on our fleet, including Tiree, Yealm, DJI M400 and Whitby.

  • Vehicle instruction: Deliver on-road and off-road driver training and UAS ground support vehicle system training.

  • Competency assessment: Design and conduct flight assessments, skills tests, theoretical examinations and recurrent currency checks against both CAA standards and our internal competency framework, including our BVLOS OSC remote pilot and ground control station role standards.

  • Courseware development: Build and maintain training syllabi, lesson plans, assessment criteria and supporting materials, keeping them current with CAP 722, our Operations Manual and the evolving UAS regulatory framework.

  • Standards and assurance: Act as a reference point for instructional standardisation, support and develop other instructors and assessors, and feed training findings into our Safety and Quality Management Systems.

  • Training records and compliance: Maintain accurate, auditable records of training, competency and currency, consistently meeting statutory record-keeping and retention obligations.

  • Operational flight crew: Develop and maintain your own remote pilot competence and currency, operating as an integral member of a flight crew so your instruction remains grounded in real, in-the-field operations.

As a company in its scaling phase, roles here are necessarily dynamic. We’ll expect a degree of flexibility, and there will be opportunities to contribute beyond your core remit as the business grows.

Who You Are

This role will suit an experienced aviation instructor who wants to apply their skills within an evolving area of flight operations. You might come from the Royal Air Force or wider military aviation, commercial aviation, general aviation or another crewed aviation environment.

You’ll enjoy the mix of practical instruction, assessment and structured course development, and be interested in building your knowledge of UAS technology and regulation.

You’ll bring:

  • Professional experience delivering aviation instruction within a military or crewed aviation environment.

  • Experience assessing operational competence against defined aviation standards.

  • A recognised military or civilian aviation instructional, training, assessor or examiner qualification.

  • The ability to teach confidently in the classroom, simulator and practical operational environments.

  • A strong understanding of aviation safety, operational discipline, human factors and standardisation.

  • Experience developing or maintaining training syllabi, lesson plans, assessment criteria or supporting course materials.

  • The ability to learn complex technical systems and translate that knowledge into clear, effective instruction.

  • A mature communication style and the ability to give clear, constructive feedback and produce concise, accurate written reports and assessments.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain training records, syllabi and assessment evidence to an auditable standard.

  • A genuine interest in UAS technology and the motivation to develop your knowledge of remote pilot operations, BVLOS and the UK UAS regulatory framework.

  • Willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally.

  • A full UK manual driving licence and unrestricted right to work in the UK.

The following would be advantageous, but are not essential:

  • UAS instructional or operational experience.

  • A current GVC or other CAA-recognised UAS qualification.

  • Experience of Specific category or BVLOS operations.

  • Knowledge of CAP 722, the Air Navigation Order and the UK UAS regulatory framework.

  • Experience working within an RAE or delivering GVC or A2 CofC instruction.

We value practical aviation instructional experience and a genuine track record of bringing people up to standard safely. If you’re an experienced military or civilian aviation instructor with an interest in the future of UAS operations, we want to hear from you.
