Skilljar is seeking a team lead to join our engineering team. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day management and enablement of one or more feature teams in direct support of the development and deployment of our products. We’re looking for someone with a successful track leading highly efficient & collaborative software development teams in an agile development environment.

We’re looking for a motivated, self-starter who is comfortable wearing multiple hats and thrives in a dynamic environment. You must be flexible, highly-collaborative, and able to think on your feet. You will be both a people manager and a technical implementer, a tactical leader and a hands-on coach.

Responsibilities:

  • Support a team of 5-8 software development engineers, providing direction, guidance, and support.
  • Experience with API design and development.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and mentoring software development engineers.
  • Take an active role in developing (coaching & mentoring) junior & senior engineers on the team to help them reach their full potential. Sets clear performance expectations, establishes specific goals and metrics for the team.
  • Contributes code, reviews pull requests, and provides technical guidance to team members on design & implementation approaches.
  • Collaborate with peers and partners throughout the organization. You will work especially closely with the team’s Product Manager and Product Designer.
  • Own and maintain technical design methodologies, processes, and standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills
  • Demonstrated ability building web applications at scale using Django, Rails, or some equivalent framework.
  • A collaborative teammate with excellent communication skills.
  • Proven experience delivering high-quality features, with excellent judgment on balancing time-to-market and scalability.
  • Highly confident throughout the stack, whether that’s building responsive front-end interfaces or building backends and APIs.
  • Knowledgeable on standard methodologies for the full software development process, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Highly self-directed and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with constantly evolving requirements and designs.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • At minimum of 8 years of related experience and at least 5 years of management or a demonstrated history of mentoring and coaching with a strong desire to lead a team. Previous management experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Internal candidates must be at or above a P4 Engineering level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or related experience required.
  • Ability to travel on an as needed basis.
  • US work authorization and criminal background check required.

Skilljar Base Pay Philosophy:

At Skilljar, we strive for salary range transparency in our hiring process. This is a major step towards not only complying with state and local regulations where required, but also to make sure Skilljar is putting pay equity and DEIB top of mind during the hiring process. Base salary is only a part of the total rewards package - this role will also be eligible for a new hire equity grant in the form of stock options. Below is the base salary range for this role:

Base Salary Range: $158,400-$193,800

The salary range for this position will be determined based on factors such as experience, education, relevant abilities, and internal equity. Additionally, for individuals making a lateral position change, this document provides details around compensation expectations.
