About Us
SkyServe is pioneering real-time geospatial intelligence and autonomous observation systems. Our Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) platform ingests and fuses high-frequency data streams—including satellite and terrestrial AIS, radio frequency (RF) dark-vessel signatures, and high-resolution Earth observation (Optical & SAR) detections—to monitor critical sea lines of communication, detect sanctions evasions, uncover illegal transshipments, and safeguard Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).
Position Overview
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer for MDA, you will own the end-to-end development of customer-facing operational command dashboards, real-time alert systems, and scalable backend microservices. Your systems will enable naval coast guards, port authorities, and maritime security teams to visualize and interact with millions of vessel trajectories in real time.
Key Responsibilities
1. Frontend & High-Performance Spatial Visualizations
Architect and scale low-latency, responsive web user interfaces using React, TypeScript, and modern state management (Zustand, Redux Toolkit, or TanStack Query).Implement GPU-accelerated 2D/3D map visualizations handling tens of thousands of simultaneous moving entities using Mapbox GL JS, Deck.gl, CesiumJS, or OpenLayers.Design interactive analytics workflows: vessel history playback, spatio-temporal filtering, dynamic geofencing, multi-vessel rendezvous graphs, and risk heatmaps.2. Backend Microservices & Real-Time Data Streaming
Design and maintain robust REST, GraphQL, and WebSocket/gRPC services in Python (FastAPI) or Go to serve vessel telemetry, anomaly flags, and metadata.Build streaming subscriber pipelines consuming from message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Redis Pub/Sub) to push real-time updates and notifications to connected client sessions with sub-second latency.Implement role-based access control (RBAC), multi-tenant isolation, and audit logging required for defense and government agency deployments.3. Database Architecture & Spatio-Temporal Queries
Optimize spatio-temporal data models and analytical queries on PostgreSQL / PostGIS, TimescaleDB, or ClickHouse to support rapid trajectory lookups and complex geometric intersections.Build query caching mechanisms with Redis to ensure sub-second response times for global vessel search, IMO/MMSI resolution, and historical track interpolation.4. System Reliability, Packaging & Deployment
Work with Forward Deployed Engineers (FDSE) and DevOps to containerize services using Docker and maintain Kubernetes configurations for dual deployment (commercial cloud and air-gapped/on-premise government enclaves).Enforce rigorous code quality with comprehensive unit and integration testing (e.g. PyTest) and automated CI/CD pipelines. What We Are Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications:
Experience: 3+ years of professional full-stack development experience designing and operating web applications.Frontend Proficiency: Strong mastery of TypeScript, React, and CSS/UI design systems (Tailwind CSS, Shadcn/ui, or Material UI).Geospatial Web Tooling: Hands-on experience integrating web-mapping libraries (Mapbox GL, Deck.gl, Leaflet, or OpenLayers) with dynamic GeoJSON, Vector Tiles (MVT), or raster overlays.Backend Expertise: Deep fluency in Python (FastAPI / Django) or Go, with a firm grasp of asynchronous programming, RESTful API design, and WebSocket lifecycle management.Database Fluency: Practical experience writing spatial queries and indices in PostgreSQL / PostGIS.DevOps Basics: Comfortable with Docker, Linux environments, and CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).Nice-to-Have / Strong Advantages:
Experience handling high-throughput telematics, IoT tracking streams, or maritime datasets (AIS messages, NMEA standards).Exposure to time-series and columnar databases such as ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, or DuckDB.Prior experience with air-gapped deployments, sovereign defense installations, or government cloud compliance.Familiarity with micro-frontend architectures and Web Workers / OffscreenCanvas for intensive client-side spatial calculations. Why Join SkyServe?
Mission-Critical Software: You are building software deployed in active national security operations, disaster recovery, and ocean conservation missions.Hard Technical Problems: Tackle real problems in extreme-scale data streaming, GPU-driven client-side geospatial rendering, and high-frequency spatial indexing.Fast-Paced, High-Autonomy Team: Direct ownership over architecture choices, tools, and UI/UX design with minimal corporate bureaucracy.
