Position Overview:
This role will be the first engineering role hired as a part of Solideon’s maritime and naval business. This position will start with a 2-month training period in the HQ of Berkeley, California. The person hired for this role will be a key member of the team supporting the installation and commissioning of WAAM cells being co-located with shipbuilding customers in Virginia. This person will be able to provide feedback on facility layout, WAAM cell designs, and testing and validation. This Manufacturing engineer will report directly to Solideon’s Vice President of Engineering and work directly with stakeholders on the East Coast as needed to create a streamlined operational flow.
As Solideon’s 1st engineering hire on the East Coast, you will be responsible for operating the Aperture cell and overseeing the timely completion of customer builds. This role is collaborative as the candidate will work with welding, robotics, software engineers, and operations and sales team members to realize first-of-kind wire arc additive manufacturing. Strong, collaborative relationships with peers and leaders across the company are critical.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the testing and validation efforts for internal and external stakeholders
- Manage, operate, and maintain the Aperture cell, and oversee the timely completion of customer builds
- Provide engineering support for design and process improvements, enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness for both new and existing processes
- Design and execute commercial 3d printing using CAD and algorithmic design tools.
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing custom tool path workflows
- Analyze and resolve manufacturing discrepancies, collaborating with the quality team on root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Lead the safety and security practices related to the Aperture cell and manufacturing
Qualifications:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience with Grasshopper 3D
- 3+ Years of experience with CAD/CAM systems
- 2+ Years of experience with additive manufacturing processes.
- Must be a US citizen
- Able to get a security clearance on an as-needed basis
Preferred but not required:
- 1+ years of customer-facing engineering experience
- Programming and scripting in Python, C#, C++, or G-Code
- Experience with CNC machining and subtractive processes
- Hands-on experience with metal fabrication methods like welding
- History of working in quality environments such as ITAR, AS9100D, or ISO 9001
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma practices
