Position Summary:

The PICC Nurse assesses patients and places vascular access devices in settings ranging from the inpatient hospital room to a patient’s home. The PICC Nurse also provides care, maintenance, troubleshooting and education for existing VAD’s. Services are provided in accordance with Chesapeake Mobile Healthcare policies and procedures and in compliance with medical orders. The PICC Nurse works collaboratively with the in-office team to deliver excellent care to patients.

Primary Responsibilities/Scope of Practice:

  • Represent CMH professionally at all times
  • Work collaboratively with patients, customers, and the administrative team to schedule visits
  • Drive personal and/or company vehicle in the completion of job duties, including travel to the Company office, patient homes, hospitals, SNF’s, and other locations as needed
  • Arrive at customer locations on-time, appropriately dressed, and with a desire to help
  • Establish a positive rapport with providers, caregivers, patients and families
  • Assess patient’s physical condition and medical history to determine the proper intervention
  • Verify or obtain provider orders and consent for the most appropriate intervention
  • Place VAD’s including PIV, extended dwell catheters, midline, PICC, CVC and mid-thigh femoral catheters. Perform lab draws, transfusion workups, catheter declots, port access, dressing change, medication or blood administration, and any other vascular access or infusion services as needed
  • Maintain current nursing licensure in all States in which services are delivered
  • Comply with all State and Federal regulations and laws, including employee health and safety protections mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), patient privacy and data security required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as well as all infusion therapy standards of practice
  • Complete trainings and competencies, both initial and ongoing, as required
  • Assist in staff orientation and training as requested
  • Other nursing or administrative duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State(s) of practice
  • PICC Certified
  • Two years of RN experience placing ultrasound-guided VAD’s
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Able to send/receive text messages, work with smartphone apps, and use GPS navigation
  • Able to work collaboratively with co-workers and customers
  • Able to work independently in all care settings
  • Able to meet attendance, punctuality, and other reliability requirements of the position
  • Able to push/pull 50+ lb in positioning patients
