Violin Instructor

Trala

Trala

Chicago, IL, USA
Posted on Friday, September 1, 2023

Trala is the fastest growing music school in the world. Our mission is to make world-class music education accessible to every single person on Earth. We currently teach violin to 2000+ students and we’re adding 20 new teachers per month. Founded in 2016, we're backed by amazing people like Joshua Bell and the founders of Duolingo.

Right now, music education is only accessible to the privileged, rich, and urban. Imagine instead a world where all 4 billion people who will pick up an instrument in the next 30 years could get a world-class education. That is the future we’re obsessed with creating.

At Trala, we’re pushing forward music education in three huge ways:

  1. We wrote the first major method of music instruction since the 1950s. It’s the first method geared towards adult learners and the first to prioritize accessibility and diversity.
  2. We personally match every student with a teacher to make sure there’s a great fit.
  3. We invented signal processing technology that listens to students play their real instruments and gives instant feedback on every mistake, helping them make progress in between lessons.

About the role

You will be teaching 10 - 30 violin students, mostly beginners, via Zoom. We will find students for you and match you with students who fit your teaching style and availability. Your job is to teach and retain these students, and hopefully to have fun with it! Our students are wonderful and incredibly diverse.

  • 2+ years' experience teaching beginner violin.
  • Experience teaching violin on Zoom.
  • Deep empathy for the journey of each individual student.
  • Some experience with technology. We use several tech products, and have our own in-house engineering team.
  • Preference will be given to teachers looking to teach 20+ hours per week and who have some evening and/or weekend availability, which is in high demand from Trala students. Trala is not a good fit for teachers looking to fill a few hours worth of gaps in their current calendar.

Expectations after being hired

  • Weeks 1-2: training on the Trala curriculum and tech tools.
  • Weeks 3-5:
    • We will match you with 2 - 5 new students per week. You will reach out these students and then start teaching!
    • Teach new students. Convert first-time students to continue learning with Trala by scheduling their second lesson and retaining those students.
  • Weeks 6+:
    • Daily: teach 1-on-1 violin lessons over Zoom. Send wrap-ups and nurture your students throughout the week to help them make progress.
    • Weekly: attend training sessions with other teachers around technology, studio management, and pedagogy.
    • Every couple months: Teach a group class or workshop. Cheer your students on at a recital. Participate in other team events.
