The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Founding Engineer to architect and scale the infrastructure powering Valene’s AI agents. You’ll work directly with the CEO and technical collaborators to design systems that bring autonomy, safety, and seamless integration into clinical environments. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundation of a product that’s already addressing high-impact challenges in healthcare.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement Valene’s core multi-agent runtime, orchestration logic, and data pipelines for clinical automation
• Build real-time voice agents that engage in natural conversations without interrupting the interaction flow
• Integrate speech recognition, voice synthesis, and LLM-based systems into a unified agent framework
• Develop agent memory management, prompt logic, and intelligent tool usage to support multi-step reasoning
• Engineer scalable backend services using modern frameworks, connected to relational databases and deployed securely in the cloud
• Lead integrations with EHR systems, including FHIR-based APIs and Epic App Orchard or Epic Hyperdrive
• Contribute to frontend tools for agent feedback, clinician review, and workflow control
• Build observability systems to monitor agent behavior, voice performance, and data flow
• Collaborate with clinical stakeholders to ensure compliance, safety, and alignment with provider workflows

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, ideally in AI, infrastructure, or real-time systems
• Strong backend development experience (e.g., Node.js, Python), plus relational database and cloud deployment experience
• Familiarity with real-time communications and voice pipelines (e.g., WebRTC)
• Understanding of conversational AI systems, prompt workflows, and agent tool calling
• Experience integrating APIs in production environments; bonus if in a regulated industry
• Experience working with FHIR APIs, and ideally integration with Epic or other major EHRs
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, sprint-driven environment with daily standups—we build and ship fast
• Product-minded engineer with a bias toward action and an eye for clinical usability

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in healthtech or healthcare enterprise systems
• Understanding of HIPAA-compliant architectures and PHI-sensitive applications
• Experience deploying applications within clinical, payer, or provider IT environments
• Exposure to multi-agent frameworks, workflow engines, or health interoperability layers (e.g., Redox, Smile CDR)
