Software Engineering, Quality Assurance

Miami, FL, USA

Posted on Sep 10, 2026

Location: Ottawa, ON or Florida (Miami preferred). Hybrid, 3 to 4 days per week in office.

About the Role

Our hiring partner is looking for a high-agency QA Engineer to build quality into software that moves money and tax data for customers. Because payments to tax authorities run on a daily schedule, quality failures can create missed payments, compliance exposure, and loss of customer trust.

This is a Quality Engineering role rather than a manual testing seat. Automation is the default: you will own Playwright test suites, build API automation, and turn escaped defects into repeatable process improvements. You will embed with product engineering squads, bring testability and risk into refinement and sprint planning, and own release verification for the work you cover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review stories and acceptance criteria before development begins, identifying testability gaps, risks, and automation opportunities.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Validate features against acceptance criteria and perform risk-based exploratory testing.
  • Reproduce and verify bugs, validate fixes, and check for regressions.
  • Write and maintain Playwright UI automation and expand sanity and regression coverage.
  • Build API automation covering functional behaviour, contracts, authentication, and error handling.
  • Improve framework patterns, shared utilities, and test maintainability.
  • Investigate flaky tests and fix root causes.
  • Execute release sanity and regression cycles and provide evidence-based quality assessments.
  • Verify critical workflows after deployment and help define release quality gates.
  • Maintain test environments, accounts, data, and reliable CI execution.
  • Track quality signals including coverage, pass rates, escaped defects, and test stability.

Who You Are

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in QA, quality engineering, test automation, or a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience writing automated tests, ideally with Playwright and TypeScript.
  • Comfortable writing code in TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, Python, or a similar language.
  • Practical experience testing REST APIs, including authentication, request and response validation, and error cases.
  • Strong testing fundamentals, including risk-based prioritisation, boundary and negative cases, and knowing when automation is not the right answer.
  • Comfortable reading application logs and querying data to investigate issues.
  • High agency, strong ownership, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Experience working in a high-growth or fast-paced technology environment, with the ability to adapt quickly as teams, products, and priorities evolve.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Ottawa or Florida, with Miami preferred, and able to work in office 3 to 4 days per week.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in fintech, payments, banking, accounting, or another regulated industry.
  • Exposure to payment flows, financial reconciliation, or tax and compliance workflows.
  • Experience testing public APIs, including versioning and contract compatibility.
  • Experience integrating automated suites into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Performance, load, security testing, .NET, AWS, Azure, or AI-assisted testing experience.
  • Experience being an early quality hire and building process from scratch.

Why Join Us

Join a quality function being built as a true engineering discipline, with automation, release governance, and metrics at its centre. You will own meaningful automation from day one, influence release decisions, and work across product quality, UI and API automation, release verification, and production quality.
