Manufacturing Process Engineer

The Manufacturing Process Engineer will report to the VP of Engineering and support the efforts of the operations and R&D team to optimize processes, set process conditions, and develop solutions to technical challenges. The Manufacturing Process Engineer will work with Vartega’s EasyFeed bundle production lines, plastics compounding, and plastics injection molding. The role will involve:

  • Lead a team of technicians in recycling and thermoplastic compounding development projects
  • Document development projects in test and technical reports
  • Developing and improving production processes to produce high-quality consistent materials
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data to optimize carbon fiber recovery, thermoplastic compounding and molding processes for specific material performance and productivity requirements.
  • Perform destructive and nondestructive material performance and quality testing
  • Developing design narratives, bills of material, and requests for proposals to source manufacturing solutions
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Specifying new systems and improving existing equipment to reduce maintenance downtime and equipment failures
  • Collaborating with other company stakeholders responsible for production and quality to ensure that equipment is operating effectively and efficiently
  • Troubleshooting equipment problems independently and as part of a team
  • Addressing production bottlenecks via automation and material handling to increase machine uptime and production output
  • Implementation & sustainment of continuous improvement efforts REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials or electrical engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with process optimization and design of experiments
  • Understanding of industrial safety and hygiene best practices
  • Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment
  • Self-motivated, persistent, attentive to detail and well-organized
  • Agile and able to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and other Microsoft products
  • Experience using Google Workspace

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS

  • ISO or similar quality management system experience
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience with new product launch
  • Experience with plastics compounding and injection molding
  • Experience scoping out instrumentation, controls, and automation for basic machine operation
  • Experience installing and commissioning robotics, dust collection, HVAC, and conveyance systems
  • Experience with Autodesk CAD programs
