Robotics Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)
Location: Brooklyn, NY (In-Person)
Type: Full-Time Intern
Duration: Summer 2026 (8-12 weeks)
Compensation: $20-40/hr
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and technical Robotics Engineering Intern to join our engineering team in Brooklyn. This role is designed for a student or recent graduate who is passionate about the intersection of hardware and software. You will work directly on high-impact projects involving multi-axis robotic arms, computer vision systems, and autonomous drone integrations.
This is a hands-on role where you will move between the workstation and the workbench, helping us advance new projects and optimize current processes in a rapid prototyping environment. Candidates must be able to commit at least 8 weeks.
Key Responsibilities
As an intern, your day-to-day tasks will be tailored to your specific technical strengths. However, all members of the team contribute to the overall success of our systems. Responsibilities can include:
● Robotic Systems: Own the development, testing, and optimization of robotic arm trajectories and motion planning.
● Perception & Calibration: Develop and execute intrinsic and extrinsic camera calibration routines to ensure high-precision data for computer vision pipelines.
● Hardware Prototyping: Design and iterate on custom mounts, end-effectors, and drone components using CAD software (SolidWorks or Fusion 360).
● Electromechanical Integration: Hands-on wiring, circuit design, and sensor integration to create fully functional, integrated systems.
● Testing & Data Analysis: Conduct rigorous field and lab tests (including flight testing), document failures, and suggest design improvements based on sensor data.
● System Integration: Support R&D efforts for drone-related modules, focusing on hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulations and physical assembly.
Skills & Qualifications
1. Requirements
● Education: Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Must be a current third or fourth-year student for BS students.
● Programming: Proficiency in Python or C++
● Mathematics: Strong understanding of linear algebra, kinematics, and coordinate transformations.
● Hardware Literacy: Experience with single-board computers or microprocessors (Jetson Orin, Raspberry Pi, etc.).
● Citizenship: US Citizenship is required.
2. Focus Areas (Candidates should excel in at least one)
Track A: Mechatronics & Design
● Proficiency in 3D modeling for 3D printing and prototyping (SolidWorks/Fusion 360).
● Experience with electromechanical integration (basic circuit design, soldering, wiring).
● Familiarity with rapid prototyping workflows and hands-on prototyping experience.
Track B: Software & Perception
● Direct experience with ROS/ROS2 and Linux environments.
● Familiarity with OpenCV, camera calibration, or depth-sensing cameras (e.g., Intel RealSense).
● Experience working with Robot Arm SDKs and APIs for motion control.
3. Preferable, but not required
● Exposure to UAV flight stacks like PX4 or ArduPilot.
● Experience with Git/GitHub for version control.
● Previous experience in a fast-paced hardware startup or research lab.
What We Offer
● Direct Impact Mentorship: Work alongside senior engineers to move your designs from the computer screen to physical flight-testing by the end of the summer.
● Paid Internship: Competitive industry stipend + NYC metro card
● Hands-on Lab: Full access to our Brooklyn lab space and engineering analysis tools, including an industrial robot arm, 3D printers, and prototyping equipment
● Flight Testing: The opportunity to see your designs move from a computer screen to a functioning physical prototype flown on a drone.
● Brooklyn Lab Culture: Join a team that values rapid iteration, creative problem-solving, and "building the future" right here in NYC.
