Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Sewing Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team. As the Lead Sewing Machine Operator, you will be responsible for overseeing and guiding a team of sewing machine operators to ensure the efficient and precise execution of our sewing processes. Your expertise in operating industrial sewing machines, strong leadership skills, and attention to detail will contribute to maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and productivity. This position requires a deep understanding of sewing techniques, the ability to mentor and train team members, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and provide guidance to a team of sewing machine operators, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines to perform complex sewing tasks, troubleshoot machine issues, and assist team members when necessary.
  • Train and mentor new sewing machine operators on machine operation, sewing techniques, and quality requirements.
  • Monitor the performance of sewing machine operators, providing constructive feedback, coaching, and additional training as needed.
  • Collaborate with the production supervisor to plan and organize the daily sewing schedule, assigning tasks to team members based on their skills and experience.
  • Ensure that all sewing machines are properly set up, adjusted, and maintained for optimal performance, and perform regular maintenance tasks as required.
  • Conduct quality inspections of sewn products, identify and address any defects or inconsistencies, and ensure that all products meet the specified quality standards.
  • Assist in troubleshooting sewing machine issues, identifying the root cause of problems, and coordinating repairs or maintenance with the maintenance team.
  • Foster a positive and productive work environment by promoting teamwork, effective communication, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as pattern-making, cutting, and finishing, to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion of production orders.
  • Maintain accurate records of production output, including productivity, efficiency, and quality metrics.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new sewing techniques, and technological advancements in sewing machinery, and share knowledge with the team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Lead Sewing Machine Operator will be responsible for Time and Labor for Sewing department; approving weekly timecards, Paid Time Off and Paid Sick Time. All other supervisor responsbilities related to employee performance evaluations and employee discipline remain with the Director of Production.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 10+ years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience as a Sewing Machine Operator or in a similar role, with demonstrated expertise in operating industrial sewing machines.
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory position, with the ability to mentor, train, and motivate team members.
  • Strong knowledge of sewing techniques, garment construction, and fabric properties.
  • Ability to read and interpret sewing patterns, work orders, and technical specifications.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to address sewing machine issues effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying sewing defects or irregularities.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet production targets and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Adaptability to work with different fabric types, patterns, and sewing requirements.
  • Proficiency in conducting quality inspections and maintaining quality standards.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to craftsmanship and quality.

Compensation

In compliance with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the compensation for this role is $25.00 -$35.00 per hour, however, Vita Inclinata Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.
