Hoopsy

On a mission to eliminate plastic from lateral flow tests and make it easier to interpret results, starting with the pregnancy test.

Plastic pollution from lateral flow tests, every year over 178m kg of plastic from over 30 billion tests used across medical, environmental, food, and veterinary testing are thrown away. This plastic takes 30+ years to breakdown into microplastics which then pollute water, soil, food and eventually us.

We have developed a 99% plastic-free pregnancy test and are working on a 100% plastic-free test. Our plastic-free test will reduce carbon emissions by 79% versa the equivalent plastic one.

Hoopsy is focused on the USA market and is run by Lara Solomon, a solo founder, so any help with the business is VERY greatly received.

Role (Volunteer, unpaid): Mobile Application Developer

Role Description:

Purpose

A mobile application built with Flutter for analyzing pregnancy test strips using AWS cloud services. The app captures images, processes them with AI, and provides accessible results with guidance.

Tech Stack

• Frontend: Flutter (v3.x - Check flutter --version)
• Backend: AWS Amplify
• Authentication: AWS Cognito (primarily for unauthenticated access via Identity Pool)
• Storage: AWS S3 (for test strip image uploads)
• API: AWS API Gateway + AWS Lambda (Python runtime - for /analyze endpoint)
• Language: Dart (Flutter), Python (Lambda)

App Features

1. Guided Camera Interface: Specialized guide frame to help users position test strips correctly.
2. Image Processing: Analyze test strips to determine positive/negative status.
3. Accessible Results: Visual and audio feedback for test results.
4. AI-Powered Chat: Interactive conversation with Claude 3.5 Sonnet AI assistant for follow-up support, guidance, and pregnancy-related questions.

However, we now want to add a payment thing so that each user is charged $2 per month. We have been quoted ridiculous amounts to do this, so am hoping that someone here can help us.

The app is not live in the app store yet, and we need to get it moved onto my own hosting (if that is the word) and then so it can be used on Android or Apple and paid for. We have the files in GitHub
