Toonda Cultural Community Center

In rural Uganda, limited access to quality education, economic opportunities for women, and creative expression prevents communities from reaching their full potential. Many families live below the poverty line, and young people often drop out of school due to financial hardship. Women, especially single mothers, lack stable income and professional skills. Artistic and cultural resources are underrepresented, and youth have few outlets to develop their talents and voices.

Toonda addresses these challenges through a community-led approach that combines education, women’s empowerment, and arts & culture, creating a safe and inclusive environment where people gain skills, confidence, and income.

Our solution is to empower people at the grassroots level through a vibrant community hub that offers:

• Educational support (school sponsorships, tutoring, digital literacy, reading programs)
• Women-led income generation (weaving, tailoring, catering groups – now producing for TK Maxx)
• Creative spaces for expression and exchange (annual cultural gala, artist residencies, workshops)
• Local tourism initiatives (Airbnb, drumming & weaving workshops) that generate income for sustainability

All our projects are designed with the community, for the community, with a strong emphasis on self-organization and long-term impact.

Role (Volunteer, unpaid): Social Media Manager

Role Description: We are looking for a volunteer with social media and community-building skills who can help attract retreat participants, grow awareness, and build an online presence for the retreats.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage social media content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms
• Help attract retreat participants internationally and within Uganda
• Create engaging posts, stories, reels, videos, and simple promotional materials
• Support outreach campaigns and online community engagement
• Suggest creative strategies to grow visibility, engagement, and bookings
• Coordinate content planning and posting schedules
• Help build a consistent and inspiring online presence for the retreats

You’re a good fit if you:

• Have experience with social media marketing, content creation, or online community building
• Enjoy storytelling, wellness, travel, or cultural initiatives
• Can create simple visuals and videos using tools like Canva or CapCut
• Understand how to grow engagement organically across different platforms
• Want to support a meaningful grassroots organization in Uganda
• Experience with tourism, retreats, wellness, or travel marketing is a plus

Your work will help Soul Untethered Retreats reach new audiences and participants, while supporting TOONDA in building sustainable funding for its community programs in rural Uganda.

Time Commitment: Volunteer 7-9 hours per week for 6+ months remotely 💻
