As a Backend Platform Engineer at DeviantArt, you will join the core engineering team to design, develop, and maintain the core infrastructure that powers the largest community of artists in the world. You will focus on the full lifecycle of critical backend services, from architecture to implementation and large-scale operation. The services you build will serve as the foundation for content recommendation, data analytics, and artificial intelligence systems at DeviantArt.
- Design, build, and maintain highly scalable services across various technical domains.
- Architect core platform infrastructure using AWS managed services and industry standard tools such as Kafka, Redis, and Docker/K8s.
- Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate requirements into impactful system capabilities.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize system performance, throughput, and stability.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in building and operating large-scale backend systems.
- Proven track record of high technical ownership throughout the full service life cycle.
- Strong programming proficiency, particularly in Python.
- Some experience with LAMP (php), Node.js, or Java is a plus.
- Hands-on expertise operating distributed applications within AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.
- Passion for art, creativity, and the DeviantArt community.
- Familiarity with search technologies such as Vespa or Elasticsearch is a plus.

We believe the best innovation happens when we mix deep focus work with in-person connection. While you'll work from home most of the week, we require this person to be in our Vancouver office every Thursday.
The approximate base compensation is $130,000 - 185,000 CAD In addition to base pay you will receive company RSUs as part of the compensation package.
