About Zipline

Do you want to change the world? Zipline is on a mission to transform the way goods move. Our aim is to solve the world’s most urgent and complex access challenges by building, manufacturing and operating the first instant delivery and logistics system that serves all humans equally, wherever they are. From powering Rwanda’s national blood delivery network and Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution, to providing on-demand home delivery for Walmart, to enabling healthcare providers to bring care directly to U.S. homes, we are transforming the way things move for businesses, governments and consumers. The technology is complex but the idea is simple: a teleportation service that delivers what you need, when you need it. Through our technology that includes robotics and autonomy, we are decarbonizing delivery, decreasing road congestion, and reducing fossil fuel consumption and air pollution, while providing equitable access to billions of people and building a more resilient global supply chain.
Join Zipline and help us to make good on our promise to build an equitable and more resilient global supply chain for billions of people.

About You and The Role

The Zipline Legal Team is searching for an organized and proactive lawyer who has the skills and curiosity to handle a wide range of commercial and corporate legal matters. You will work closely with almost every Zipline business unit, managing almost all day-to-day contract operations and global corporate secretarial work. On a given day, you may help us create a wholly-owned subsidiary in Australia in the morning and turn to supporting our engineering team with drafting, negotiating, and closing a third-party development contract in the afternoon. You’ll be at the center of a strong, friendly, passionate, and growing in-house legal function and will work closely with each of the six members of the Legal Team, reporting to Zipline’s General Counsel.

What You'll Do

  • Be the first port of call for internal customers of Zipline’s Legal Team, effectively communicating with and managing expectations of those customers
  • Draft, negotiate, and close contracts in connection with a variety of corporate and commercial transactions, including supply chain, sales, technology transactions, financings, real estate, and other miscellaneous inbound and outbound agreements
  • Manage corporate secretarial, formation, and compliance matters for Zipline and its international subsidiaries
  • Oversee Zipline’s business insurance program, from running Zipline’s insurance renewal process to overseeing and filing insurance claims on behalf of the business
  • Support with special corporate projects, including financing and strategic transactions
  • Research and analyze discrete corporate and commercial legal questions and clearly communicate those research findings in writing and verbally
  • Proofread and write legal documents, contracts, memoranda, and correspondence
  • Collaborate with Zipline’s finance and accounting teams on a variety of cross-functional and legal-adjacent projects, including international tax and transfer pricing arrangements, financial audits, commercial real estate leases, franchise taxes, etc.
  • Pinch hit for members of the Legal Team, helping to creatively and efficiently address novel questions that come up each day across Zipline’s global business

What You'll Bring

  • A general understanding of and familiarity with contracts and contract review, drafting, and negotiation
  • You enjoy the challenge and pressure of effectively, undramatically, and quickly closing critical transactions for the business
  • The confidence to make independent judgment calls with conviction – and the instincts to recognize when issues require escalation or input from others
  • You check your ego at the door and have the humility to work equally hard on urgent, business-critical workstreams and administrative or routine tasks
  • Responsiveness and a positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Contract drafting skills that you take pride in and are committed to improving
  • An ability to manage effectively to deadlines, even with competing priorities
  • Effective communication skills (verbally and in writing)
  • The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • A resilient constitution–you don’t get easily overwhelmed or frustrated
  • A willingness to get in the weeds and dive headfirst into whatever pressing issue or challenge is facing the business, regardless of familiarity or interest

What Else You Need to Know

  • JD Degree required
  • Member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • Relevant legal experience (at a reputable law firm and/or in-house)
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • This is an in-office role based out of our South San Francisco HQ
The starting cash range for this role is $130,000 - $160,000. Please note that this is a target, starting cash range for a candidate who meets the minimum qualifications for this role.
