ABOUT ZIPLINE

Do you want to change the world? Zipline is on a mission to transform the way goods move. Our aim is to solve the world’s most urgent and complex access challenges by building, manufacturing, and operating the first instant delivery and logistics system that serves all humans equally, wherever they are. From powering Rwanda’s national blood delivery network and Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution, to providing on-demand home delivery for Walmart and enabling healthcare providers to bring care directly to U.S. homes, we are transforming the way things move for businesses, governments, and consumers. The technology is complex but the idea is simple: a teleportation service that delivers what you need, when you need it, with zero emissions.

Join Zipline and help us to make good on our promise to build an equitable and more resilient global supply chain for billions of people.

ABOUT YOU AND THE ROLE

We’re looking for a GIS Technician who thrives in fast-paced, mission-focused environments and is excited to advance geospatial technology. In this role, you’ll power Zipline’s expanding operations by managing geospatial data, processing aerial imagery, and preparing precise routes for our self-flying delivery drones. You’ll work closely with our GIS Operations and Engineering teams to ensure every route is accurate, safe, and optimized so essential goods can reach people around the world.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Process UAV and satellite imagery to generate photogrammetry outputs, including digital surface models (DSM), orthomosaics, and point clouds.
  • Take ownership of photogrammetric quality control, including learning and applying methods to validate outputs and ensure geospatial datasets meet accuracy standards.
  • Design safe and efficient flight routes that account for hazards, and prepare UAV datasets for integration into Zipline’s flight planning system.
  • Conduct spatial evaluations to estimate travel times and distances to health facilities using road networks, elevation models, and service catchments.
  • Oversee delivery site onboarding by planning and validating new flight routes with Zipline’s internal tools.
  • Track production progress across multiple distribution centers and continuously identify ways to expand, improve, and streamline the systems and tools used to bring on new sites.
  • Collaborate with GIS engineers and operations teams to refine data pipelines, ensuring accurate routing and territory mapping with up-to-date satellite, drone, and public datasets.
  • Manage shifting priorities in a dynamic environment, contribute to productivity tracking, and help the team deliver against key timelines.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Experience working with Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), orthophotos, and LiDAR point clouds.
  • Strong knowledge of projections and spatial referencing (datums, coordinate systems).
  • Familiarity with UAV-collected imagery and geospatial processing workflows.
  • Comfortable using remote sensing techniques, including feature extraction from raster imagery with manual or automated tools.
  • Proficiency in GIS and photogrammetry software such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Pix4D, and GDAL.
  • Experience managing large and complex geospatial datasets, with strong organizational and data stewardship skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple analysis requests and balance parallel priorities.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness in all outputs.
  • Ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality results under tight or shifting timelines.

Strong candidates will also have:

  • Familiarity with BASH terminal environments.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience or interest in Python scripting to support geospatial workflows.
