Job Description

As a Senior Front End Developer at Collctiv, you will be a key contributor in crafting and maintaining our user-facing and internal applications across web and mobile platforms. You will use React (NextJS) and React Native (Expo) to deliver a seamless, simple to use experience for our Organisers. This role is crucial in building and enhancing the digital touchpoints that empower our community, ensuring high performance, scalability, and an intuitive design. You will be responsible for translating user feedback and product requirements into high-quality code, driving product development, and optimising the operational efficiencies of our front-end architecture.

Type of Person

  • Must be happy working in a start-up environment with an ‘all hands on deck’ approach - able to adapt to changing priorities;
  • Open and honest communication skills;
  • Commitment to simplicity in design, work, and relationships;
  • Must be able to demonstrate a growth mindset and an understanding that in a startup business done is better than perfect;
  • Understanding of the importance of putting our customers at the centre of everything we do and build;
  • Experimental and innovative mindset - comfortable with change and focused on curiosity and a desire to improve;
  • Collaborative working style - desire to be part of a team and an understanding that all team members have something important to bring to the table;
  • Bonus points for being an ‘organiser’ personality type (i.e. our customer). You're a natural organizer who understands our customer's needs and experiences

Key Responsibilities

1. Front-End Development

  • Lead the development and maintenance of high-performance, scalable front-end applications across web and mobile platforms using React, Next.js, React Native, and Expo;
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, best practices and a robust, maintainable codebase, including effective code reviews and documentation;
  • Drive the adoption of modern front-end tooling, testing frameworks, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Work with the UI/UX team to bring ideas to reality.

2. Product Collaboration and Execution

  • Collaborate closely with Growth, Customer Support, Marketing and Backend teams to translate user needs and product requirements into elegant, high-quality technical solutions and a seamless user experience;
  • Collaborate with the entire team to effectively communicate new releases and features, driving organisational understanding and successful adoption;
  • Ensure technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and actively contribute to the design system and component library;
  • Proactively identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and architectural improvements to ensure the long-term health and efficiency of the front-end stack.

3. Leadership

  • Act as a technical leader for other team members, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the engineering team;
  • Take ownership of complex features from concept to deployment, ensuring timely delivery and high quality;
  • Champion an experimental and data-driven approach to development, participating in A/B testing and using data to guide product and technical decisions.

Skills - Essential

This section is usually deliberately blank. We want awesome people. Full Stop.

However, with a technical role such as this, you need to have experience in React (NextJS) and React Native (Expo)

If you like the look of the role and believe you can be great, then let’s chat. It would be so sad for us both to miss a wonderful opportunity because you ruled yourself out before applying. Hit apply and let’s chat!

Skills - Desirable

  • A growth mindset - 90% of what we try doesn’t work. That’s the idea! The data we get from something not working is often as powerful as the data we get when it does. The important thing is your ability to embrace it and learn without being defensive or taking it personally (harder than it sounds!);
  • Experience with NextJS, Expo, SwiftUI frameworks;
  • Experience working with payments;
  • Developed apps using event driven, serverless architecture and public cloud, ideally with Google Cloud Platform;
  • Launched apps into the App Store and Google Play;
  • Be our customer - if you are an organiser, ideas will come so much easier and be so much more effective;
  • A commitment to experimentation, then efficiency. We operate fast and to an 80% standard - done is better than perfect. But then once we find the things to do more of, we’re looking for someone who can make it efficient and scalable;
  • A deep passion for front end development. This may sound obvious but we’re looking for someone that loves front end development. Someone who can’t help but keep up to date with the latest technology but also knows there’s a balance between staying up to date with the latest technology and using it in production.

Location

Collctiv implements a mixed work from home / office approach.

Ideally you will spend at least 1 day a week per week in our Stockport HQ BUT if this is a dealbreaker then it can also be fully remote. If you are the right person, we are happy to compromise on this :-)

We will provide you with any equipment you may need to do your job from home.

We also have an unlimited holiday policy, so you can take the time you need to do your thing outside of work.

Salary

£52,398 to £61,994 + company options + unlimited holidays + monthly wellbeing policy

Apply because you absolutely want to…

  • Have freedom and autonomy in your role
  • Be part of building something new
  • Work with a bunch of really good people who actually enjoy their job
  • Be part of a culture that values simplicity and transparency
  • Get rid of the Sunday night blues and be excited about the week ahead of you
