In this highly technical, hands-on role, you will work closely with the Head of Data Solutions and Business Intelligence & Analytics (BI&A) teams to design, develop, and implement data solutions that support self-service analytics, a hybrid data mesh approach, and a thriving data culture. You will have a strong focus on improving our Business Layer Design, and creating Data Contracts, working across the organisation to establish single sources of truth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Design and Implementation:
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams, especially BI&A, to design and implement data solutions that support self-service analytics and a hybrid data mesh approach, with a strong emphasis on establishing single sources of truth.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and data models, ensuring solutions are scalable, performant, and aligned with business needs.
  • Take a hands-on approach to solution development, actively participating in design, implementation, and testing activities, with a focus on improving Business Layer Design and the creation of Data Contracts.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to BI&A teams and other solution designers and development teams, leveraging your deep knowledge of SQL and/or DBT.
  • Data Architecture and Standards:
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of data architecture standards, ensuring alignment with VMO2's overall data strategy and enterprise architecture.
  • Work with the Data Architecture team to implement a hybrid data mesh, balancing central governance with domain autonomy.
  • Promote best practices for data solution development, including data modelling, data integration, and data solution architecture.
  • Data Democratisation Enablement:
  • Collaborate with the Centre for Enablement (C4E) and Data University to support the development and delivery of data literacy programmes and training materials.
  • Promote the adoption of self-service analytics tools and platforms, providing guidance and support to users.
  • Support the use of the Data Marketplace (e.g., Atlan) to facilitate data discovery, sharing, and reuse of data solutions and related assets.
  • Data Governance and Compliance:
  • Work with the Data Governance team to ensure that data solutions adhere to relevant policies and standards, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance.
  • Ensure data solutions adhere to regulatory requirements and ethical data practices.
  • Promote data lineage and metadata management to ensure transparency and traceability.
  • Data Solutions Innovation:
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in data solutions, evaluating their potential to enhance VMO2's data capabilities.
  • Research and recommend new data solutions and tools to support evolving business needs and data democratisation initiatives.
  • Participate in BI tool decommissioning activities, providing technical expertise and guidance.
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience as a Solution Designer, Data Solution Architect or Data Designer, with a strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles.
  • Deep understanding of data management concepts, including data modelling, data integration, data warehousing, and data governance.
  • Proven experience with data mesh architecture, data as a product principles, and self-service analytics enablement, including experience with hybrid data mesh implementations.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with data modelling tools, data integration technologies, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Expertise in SQL and/or DBT, with a proven track record of designing and implementing single sources of truth.
  • Familiarity with data catalogue tools (e.g., Atlan), data governance frameworks, and data privacy regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and agile environment.
  • Passion for data and its potential to drive business value.
