Lead Trading System Engineer

Location: Remote — overlap with European and US market hours (09:30–22:00 CEST / 3:30 AM–4:00 PM ET)

Who We Are

We are a cutting-edge quantitative hedge fund dedicated to driving superior investment performance through technology and innovation. Our focus is on combining state-of-the-art software engineering with advanced quantitative research, building systems that allow our team to execute thousands of trades per week with precision and speed. Our approach is agile, iterative, and data-driven, with a strong focus on collaboration between engineers, quants, and management.

What We Do

We design and operate a high-performance trading platform that connects to multiple brokers and exchanges worldwide. This platform is at the heart of our business, handling everything from order management and execution optimization to performance simulations and reconciliation between modeled and real-world trades. In other words, it’s the engine that keeps our trading strategies running smoothly, reliably, and profitably.

Why We Do It (Our Mission)

Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to leverage technology and quantitative models to maximize market opportunities while reducing execution costs and slippage. By continuously improving the quality of our trading systems and processes, we aim to deliver consistent, superior results for our investors and clients.

How We Do It
  • Building scalable and fault-tolerant systems in Python and AWS.
  • Iterating fast: we start simple, measure impact on execution, and improve based on real data instead of overengineering.
  • Using best practices like unit testing, clean code, and reusable components to ensure stability and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborating closely across teams to optimize every aspect of the trading lifecycle.
Who Works With Us

You’ll be joining a highly skilled and cross-functional team of quantitative researchers, developers, and trading professionals. Our team thrives on problem-solving and innovation, with a flat hierarchy where ideas are valued and rapid decision-making is encouraged. You’ll work directly with senior management and quants, ensuring your contributions have a direct, measurable impact on the company’s performance.

Why This Vacancy Exists

We’ve expanded from managing a single account to multiple accounts and are adding regions (today US; next Europe and Japan). The execution system turned out to be more complex than expected at multi-account, multi-region scale. We’re creating this role for a leader who has already built and run quant execution in production—so we don’t reinvent well-understood pieces and can reach day-one reliability fast.

Baseline success criteria the new lead will own:

  • Orders ready and placed before market open every day (current gap to close).
  • Zero trade errors (explicit metric).
  • Faster daily pipeline so orders are prepared earlier.
  • (Bonus territory) Run best-execution experiments to reduce slippage and market impact and improve P&L once the multi-region system is stable.
Who We Are Looking For

We need a senior, hands-on engineer with a deep understanding of both software architecture and systematic equity trading.

Must-Have Skills
  • Python Expertise — proven experience building complex, scalable systems.
  • Quant Equity Trading Knowledge — experience in systematic trading across global equity markets at funds with >$100M AUM, working with top-tier prime brokers (e.g., JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs).
  • Order Management Systems (OMS) & Execution Management Systems (EMS) — understanding of order routing, trade reconciliation, and algorithmic execution.
  • AWS Proficiency — hands-on experience with AWS services for deployment, storage, and observability.
  • Engineering Discipline — unit testing, clean code, and iterative design mindset.
  • Strong Communication Skills — fluent English, able to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Availability During Market Hours — overlapping European and US market times.
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience setting up and maintaining FIX connections with prime brokers (incl. Drop Copy).
  • Knowledge of market microstructure and execution optimization techniques.
  • DevOps experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Architect, harden, and scale a multi-account, multi-region execution stack (US → Europe, Japan) and keep it production-ready.
  • Own open/close mechanics and the daily path to orders before market open; ensure zero trade errors and accelerate the order-prep pipeline.
  • Lead 1–2 engineers while coding hands-on; set reviewable, well-documented code standards and mentor ICs.
  • Formalize process maturity: introduce lightweight RFC/architecture reviews and pragmatic release gates (CAB-like), strengthen CI/CD and release cadence.
  • Define incident escalation parameters and risk thresholds; first-line remains duty/SRE where applicable, with clear triggers to involve you; escalate to senior leadership as agreed.
  • Integrate and optimize with brokers/primes (JPM, GS, BofA, Clear), EMS (Eze) and platforms (RealTick, Eclipse); expand and tune routing/SOR and regional behaviors.
  • Monitor live trading and drive best-execution experiments (reduce slippage/market impact) once baseline reliability is achieved.
  • Own simulation & reconciliation: improve the simulator and reconcile modeled vs. real-world outcomes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (quants, trading, ops) while operating a largely self-contained execution domain.
  • Everything on AWS: leverage cloud services for scale, reliability, and observability.
What We Offer
  • Fully remote role with flexible work hours, aligned to European and US markets.
  • Work with a world-class team where your contributions directly impact company performance.
  • Opportunities to innovate and shape the platform architecture from the ground up.
  • Competitive compensation with international contracts and performance-based rewards.
  • A collaborative and transparent environment, free from bureaucracy and unnecessary processes.
Our Hiring Process
  • Initial Interview — introduction and alignment on skills, expectations, and goals.
  • Technical Discussion — deep dive into your experience with trading systems and Python.
  • Practical Evaluation — system design or problem-solving exercise (no endless coding tests).
  • Final Interview — with leadership and key team members.
  • Offer Stage — quick turnaround and clear terms.
Why This Role Matters

This is not just another engineering job — it’s an opportunity to directly influence the P&L of a cutting-edge hedge fund. If you thrive in high-stakes environments, love building systems that move real money, and want to see your work make an immediate impact, this role is for you.
